Now it's January I'm itching to start sowing seeds so it's great to hear what you're sowing now and the reasons why you leave others until later. Your video is never just a list it's always packed full of information and that is very much appreciated.

I have limited lights, and a sunny windowsill, BUT, it remains dark and cool in WA state in the USA until at least May. At the moment I have onions going, seeds and sets (my own that I saved from last year.) Most of what I seed will be in March except for peppers, I grow habanada which tastes like habanero without the heat (my stomach can no longer tolerate it), they are delicious in salads, and just for eating out of hand. Unfortunately the green fly also love them, so it is a constant fight, I am trying to overwinter one, but I think that the little buggers are winning! I guess no Chelsea again this year? unless the UK can get everyone vaccinated...sigh

You’ve managed to fill in so many gaps and queries I had in the timeline of all season potatoes. Thank you sooooo much and if the potato chapter is anything to go by.... then you really should look at publishing, I seriously would by your book, the way you set everything out is just how my brain works! Hi Steve, Another great video. Love your sheet with the seed packets and info. I have a big heat mat and purchased some lights over the Christmas period. As we have had a lot of work done on the house the wife doesn’t want plants everywhere as in previous years, so have to use the shed and or GH ( neither heated at present). I get really confused about heat, I understand heat to germinate, but how much heat after they are under lights do I need to give them?
@SteveRichards4 жыл бұрын
Actually lots of things don't need much heat to germinate at this time of year, brassicas, onions, lettuce, radish etc will all germinate fine at 16 - 18c. Peppers and tomatoes prefer 23-25c. After that brassicas, onions, lettuce, radish will grow on ideally above 10c, peppers and tomatoes above 15c. Other than that it's all about balancing heat and light and that will depend on your specific lights, the veg. But if plants grow leaf but not stem, they probably are getting too much light and not enough heat. If plants grow leggy (too much stem, not enough leaf) they are getting too much heat and not enough light. If they don't grow they are getting too little of both. If they get weak and floppy they are getting too much of both.
