Man, that brings so many memories. My first trip to Japan was in 2003, I was 19 and already a retro addict. In those days, it was very interesting to go and and buy retro because of the huge stock you could find, and the prices were ok (internet was not as big as today). I remember bumping into another retro tourist that was older than me, and he said that retrogaming and Laserdisc shops were not as interesting to visit as they were in 1995! Haha, I thought that it was interesting enough, and as Tito, I fully packed my luggage with treasures I still own. Especially laserdiscs, man, you gotta love these cover arts ! It could be displayed at home like a painting on the wall. At 9:30, this Princess mononoke LD is amazing.

The English dub brought Doctor Manhattan from Zack Snyder's Watchmen voicing the protagonist. But don't worry, I watched the movie in its original Japanese glory, with subs, a few years ago in school, and I agree, it's brilliant. Hayao Miyazaki is such a great director.

Just a note about the Japanese Gamecube games, very few of them came with actual memory cards. But they often came with a small sticker with the name of the game, like yours has for Biohazard 0. So CIB would include an unused memory card sticker, but not a memory card.

First off I really enjoyed getting to take this journey with you and was looking forward to seeing what you got. I guessed right you got a retro computer and can't wait to see you do a video on it showing off the arcade ports. I think it's great you had a theme in kind to collect for the Japanese versions of the Resident Evil games. Code Veronica on the DC is one of my favorite versions of that franchise so I can relate. It was mind blowing to play it when it released at the time and still holds up. As always great video!!!!

MLIG did an episode on the Waka upscan converter. It taps the RGB signal from the PS1 or PS2 and line doubles it to 480p VGA. It’s really cool, but the video cuts out sometimes(at least on my unit). When I play Final Fantasy 7 or 8 it drops picture when a critical hit occurs. I’m not really sure why it happens, but it’s enough of an issue that I just run my PS1 to a Retrotink/vga adapter now instead of using the upscan converter. I dream of a mod that can correct it, if that’s even possible, but I don’t have the knowledge so 😅

You'll need a pair of power supplies for the WiiU, the GamePad has its own, the idea being the console sits under the TV and the GamePad stays by the couch with your remotes and other game controllers. There was a nice charging stand as well, included in the original box. Be sure to dump a backup copy of the NAND.

I bought a pile of Dreamcast peripherals in BEEP last time I was in Japan. Still have the paper bag with their logo, only one I kept! I loved looking at all of the hardware they had in there although I knew very little about japanese computers including the Sharp X68000. Thankfully, the MiSTer FPGA is allowing me to correct this. It's been a joy watching this series so thank you for sharing it with us. I'm looking forward to returning to Japan for 3 weeks in April and going back to Beep as well as a few other places, while adding in more Hard Off and Book Off locations. It's funny you mentioned not getting a Wondermega as that's at the top of my hit list, being the only proper console I really want to find and pick up. While I'm hitting 6 cities, I won't really have the chance to hit some more of the off the tourist paths so I'll have to accept premiums. I can't remember what I paid for my AV Famicom when I was there but I'm certain it fell well into "Too much!".

Dude, 3rd, 4th, and 5th generation video game covers were awesome considering it was commissioned art by the companies itself, and not screenshots from the actual game. So it made you feel as if it was going to be like playing a video game version of the movie, despite the graphics being similar or not even close to the artwork the box and the game sticker on the cartridge/CD-ROM had at that time...6th generation was pretty good too, although I like the 5th generation and before without the CERO ratings on it.

Actually, you CAN still use the Mega Modem! iirc, it didn't connect to a _service,_ it was for peer-to-peer dial-up multiplayer gaming, so if you have access to an analog phone line and another person with a Mega Modem and a phone line, you can theoretically play one of the few titles supporting it! Oh man, an X68000...

Wow, you got some good stuff. I did watch the videos; I have been following you for a while now. I don't remember you're a LD fan, that's cool, Nice pickups for a good price. I have a CLD-99 and a CLD-A100 with a good chunk of LD movies/and a few games. I DO remember, the first NEW Star Wars, Lucas would not do DVD, so I got a Japanese disc of Star Wars: Episode I so I could watch the movie in Dolby Digital (only other version was VHS at the time). I worked in a high-end Hi-Fi store at the time and I took my disk in and used it as a demo. The pod races were WILD in DD. I think I was one of the very few that could experience that on the east coast at the time. The NEOGEO AES, WOW prices, OMG, I had one when it was current, I HAD to have it. I remember back in the 90's picking up Viewpoint for the AES for $175, most games were under $150 used. I do have 8 games for the system and with current pricing, I do not think I will be buying too many more. Very nice pickups, I could not go there myself, as I could not hold myself back..... I DO plan on going there one day and limiting myself to like $700.

Neo geo plays in the langauage the bios is set to. Both languages are on the disc it just chooses from the bios. So if your consoles is USA it will be English. I went to Japan in August and spent about $1000 or more. My 2 expensive items were Spriggan Powered and Battle Mobile on the Super Famicom CIB. My problem in Japan is reading the spines I generally get distracted by front facing items at waist to head height. All that stuff at ankle level can stay there lol.

Man it sure feels like Japan, despite the laws and working issues, has one of the best collections of retro stuff in the world (probably more than UK and US combined, including Canada and Ireland). So dude, thanks for doing this, I've seen many of these consoles over the years, and despite the prices, it's always nice to see what you picked up and what you'll use over the next 5/10 years or so. Thanks for making this video, enjoyed every minute of it but had to wait until Friday to watch considering yesterday I was a bit busy cleaning the house up.

Great haul on the laserdiscs. I once had Phantom menace on LD when it forst came out (was like 100 bucks, crazy but I had it before anyone in the states, and back then there was no region locking BS). Anyway, I gave that along with my entire collection including two players to a good friend. They had all sat in my garage for the past decade or more. These "things" used to mean more to me, but with my wife's passing last august, nothing really matters anymore. I am basically downsizing and just keeping what has meaning to me or is just to fun to play. Sorry for being a downer. Very cool haul in Japan, especially all those Neo Geo systems. Back in the 80's there was a cool Japanese Game store in Torrance California, and I remember the Neo Geo going for like $500 bucks and the games being $100 to $150 bucks, but man the games were awesome.

I was out there recently for a couple of weeks too. I thought the stuff you see on eBay selling for really high prices would be easy to find and cheap out there, but I was wrong. Didn't see any 64DD stuff. Did see a X68000 and SNES modem, but they were both in a specialist games shop and priced highly. Also was expecting to see cheap shooters for the Saturn, but most Saturn games I saw were just common or shovelware. I took too much stuff with me, so couldn't bring tons back. The laserdisks are heavy, like you say. I now have a few laserdisks, but no player. Will have to go back at some point taking hardly anything with me so I can bring back a player.

The trip in Japan was so cool to see, a lot of Bio Hazard and many cool stuff. You talk about the Ghibli movie on Laser Disc that you don't know the name, it is Princess Mononoke, one of the best of Miyazaki. Also, My life in Gaming do a video about the Waka Up Scan Converter . To do simple it convert the 240p signal into 480p via VGA.

8:59 The Green jacket of Blade Runner is the older one. It’s the second version of the Warner Home Video art (the first version of their videos being a WCI box). The Director’s Cut is the first one you showed.
