Everyone hates on pro press until they buy one and use it . I was one of them . Anything new I still solder because of the tight spaces to fit water lines in and the cost of fittings. Most of my commercial customers I work for won’t even consider working with plumbers that don’t have a press tool and a fully stocked truck with fittings. Time is money especially with service companies and people responsible for building shutdowns. Also the added benefit with guarantee of not having a leak with soldering lead free brass valves with water in the line. I can’t use shark bite fittings on most of the commercial jobs we have to go by the spec book for that job and whatever the architect wants . Usually soldered press fittings and brazed and sometimes a certain pex system. Thanks for the good videos.

The electric versions are more for a new home that is designed for the electrical infrastructure to support it.
@scottapt529112 сағат бұрын
You have high limit sensors, temp sensors, flow switches, etc. The electric versions of these tankless heaters aren't practical unless you have a very large electric service. If the house is all electric, might be talking about a 320 or 400 amp service.

@jimhuerta9038 THE point of this video,corporations are producing materials and appliances that force tradesman to do things outside of the scope of their license,insurance and the rest. Not only that,they sell these high tech gadgets to the general public,causing death,and distruction,and driving up the cost for a plumber to install one within the parameters of his license. This is what de- regulation looks like and it's only gonna get worse. I stand by my original premis that these pieces of shit or only good for the corporations that build them. Tank type all the wau!

Life long electrician and pride myself with keeping up with technology . As you stated John, it's a snowball gathering steam coming for us. I like a challenge here and there but most of this new technology is designed not to be fixed . Just replaced my hydronic atmospheric gas boiler and my 50 gallon gas water heater after decades of uninterrupted service. Tried and true technology that just works and can be fixed fairly easy in an emergency .. Thanks for sharing all your thoughts and experience .

All the tankless water heaters on my side of town are all gas only requiring 120 volt plug just for the igniter which makes it more simpler I guess cuz you just have to plug it into any outlet and it just ignites it and the gas takes over but it does have to be vented and it has all the same sensors that you're talking about My 50 gallon water heater is still going good gives me all the hot water I need but Alicia wants to try a tankless when we decide to replace ours so I guess eventually it will happen it will be a gas unit because that's what we have here and just plug it into a 120 outlet I guess and vent it out to the existing vent. Thank you for showing me this because it makes me want to run the other way when I see all these sensors I'm sure the gas one is going to be just as bad other than you'll be able to plug it into a simple outlet to run it have a great day John thank you for sharing.

There's inadequate regulation on these electric tankless units in terms of electrical code, there should be only a single circuit coming into them so that there can be a single disconnecting means. So there should be one set of terminals all together. Somehow the manufacturing side of things failed to understand the electrical code. Hence we have these abominations called electric tankless water heaters. IMO the only proper way to install them is a small subpanel immediately adjacent to the water heater to provide disconnecting means for each branch circuit for the various heating elements. If it gets installed with a conduit, they're only will be one ground wire.

regulation is for permit and inspection that Ill put that owner will get . if it passes and ive done my work wrong im still liable but if it passes and sparky screwed up then reall I dont have anything to say. Agree though that a single switch should shut down power to heater in my ( totaly inexperianced in electrical opinion) thats up to sparky and the inspector to determine but id wash my hands of it

That tankless water heater really SUCKS, maybe. 😂 No I really hate those things. I don’t see the benefit in them over a regular tank type heater. You can install 3 to 4 regular heaters for the price it costs to install one Navien or Rinnai. And you know that tankless isn’t going to last more than 20 years. I just don’t see where you ever recover your money back with a tankless.

Actually you do know how to work on them You installed one yesterday when you left they had hot water. The electrical part yeah that's a different trade but as far as the plumbing end of it you did a great job and you got it running perfectly so you even did the electrical part it's really not your responsibility to have a couple wires there the homeowner should give the instructions to the electrician and when you get there you'll have two wires that you're allowed to hook up when it comes to plumbing you're allowed to do a little electrical as long as it's in the scope of your project for instance you're allowed to hook up electric water heater or a tankless water heater I get it you don't want to run the wires from the panel to it but you got it going and as far as all those sensors I wouldn't ever work on them I would just say call a technician or get a new one and I'll swap it out That's basically why I have a new appliance guy I won't work on anything but if the owner decides just to swap it out I do that anyway you did a great job and you shouldn't feel bad about only wanting to work at one trade That's what keeps the trades going is both trade guys working together The electrician brings out the circuit and the plumber plumbs it and hooks it up You did a great job.

I looked at the specs on that unit and they were just barely getting by on that size of that unit. (besides the electrical mixups) I suspect the ground temps cooled the water down just enough and then they had problems. That original video, they also walked by the new laundry washer they were messing with and said..."ever since we did this, we have problems". Yeah, running the washer and a shower is definitely a problem for that unit! lol. Those tankless are kind of a pain if you don't size them correctly for what you need them to do. Great space savers...that is about it.
