What I Say to Myself in the Batter's Box (Hitter's Mentality)

Baseball is a game of failure - you're going to fail so many more times than you succeed. Here's a little of what I think about in the batter's box.

Alexander David Bregman (born March 30, 1994) is an American professional baseball infielder for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball (MLB).
As a 16-year-old high school sophomore in 2010, Bregman became the first high school player to win the USA Baseball Player of the Year Award. As a junior the following year he batted .678, while setting a New Mexico season record with 19 home runs. In three years of college baseball for Louisiana State University (LSU), Bregman was voted the 2013 National Freshman of the Year by Baseball America, won the 2013 Brooks Wallace Award as the country's best college shortstop, and was a two-time All-American.[1] Toward the end of his junior year of college, he was selected by the Houston Astros with the second pick in the first round of the 2015 MLB draft.
In the minor leagues he was named a 2016 AA mid-season All Star, and the 2016 USA Today Minor League Player of the Year, MLB Pipeline Hitter of the Year, and ESPN Prospect of the Year. Bregman made his MLB debut in July 2016.
Bregman started 2017 as the youngest member of Team USA, which won the gold medal in the 2017 World Baseball Classic, and ended the season winning the 2017 World Series with the Astros. He was named MVP of the 2018 MLB All-Star Game, and led the American League in doubles in 2018.

In the box i am usually just trying to remember which loud noise from the dugout or signal from my right field bullpen after the catchers signs means off speed is coming, then i just sit on it and crush it. These tips are good too

I walk up to the plate thinking about the game plan...one bang it’ll hang, two bangs it’ll change, and no bangs it is straight. When I get into the box, I focus solely on the dugout and make sure to silence the crowd noise. I hear the metal trash can bang, so I make sure to stay back so I can rip the curveball over the shortest part of the field. I then stare into the camera after my cocky trot to make it seem like am the best player ever and did it all by myself when I know I’ve ruined many careers.

Why are they laughing? That was an honest conversation, player to player. Someone who hasn't played seriously wouldn't understand the meaning of it, to play, helps to have a mindset. Sports are also about trusting yourself, visualization, adjustments... there is where good and mediocre players define themselves. So the place is not filled with players but with clueless fans. All of this before watching the rest of the video, just got angry.

I think about what I've seen of the pitcher so far, which pitches he has thrown on the first pitch & what pitch on what count. When I step in the batter's box, I tell myself Hands, Hands, Hands, because hitting is in your hands, not your arms or anything else. Then as the at bat goes on I try to think about what area is the pitcher trying to work me in, is he throwing inside, then outside, outside outside, or what pattern is he & the catcher using. Once I decide what pattern he may be using, I try to focus on that area of the strike zone & hit whatever pitch is thrown for a strike. I try not to guess fatsball, Curve, change or anything like that, just look in an area & hit it.

Damn man... just damn. I disliked the Astros before the scandal, but I had a lot of respect for you after watching some of your content. Color me embarrassed to have held you in that regard. You ruined the integrity of a game that is nearly impossible to succeed in. You took food off the table of struggling bullpen guys, ruined the chance for starters to have their best season, and showed America's youth that it's okay to cheat and to stain the reputation of your coaches, front office personnel, and industry. It sucks man. I hope it was worth it. I can only imagine that you'll be picking yourself up out of the dirt more times per week than you have in your entire career to this point, so I hope it was worth it. I can only imagine that every youth camp or speaking engagement you attend will result in a young ball player, who looked up to you at some point, asking you why you cheated at his favorite sport, so I hope it was worth it. I can only imagine that your children will play baseball or softball growing up, and will have to ask their dad why he cheated for a World Series. So I sincerely hope it was worth it. I only hope that you, Altuve, and any other players who cheated their way to the top can look their opponents, fans, and family and friends and admit that you dishonored them.
