KRISTA: it might help to bring your crew ID, seaman's papers, or crew badge when you go ashore. IF you ask for a "crew discount", you might get a price cut for food, tours, hotels, etc.,etc. When I was a crewmember with the airlines, it worked for us more often than not, though that was many years ago and times may have changed.

New to your channel and I love watching them it reminds me of my days (2001-2009) of working on ships as a shoppie! It s the best way to discover the world and make friends from all over the world. Thanks for sharing !!

I’m still on the POA, I’d say I’m spending around $200 a week, counting crew purchases onboard. Hawaii isn’t cheap, but I’m working straight 12 hour night shifts so not a lot of time off.

Hawaii is definitely not cheap! Hope you’re enjoying your contract!

Often I’d come home after a 9 month contract with $5k in my pocket. But after 3 months on land I was basically broke again and needed to head back out to sea and start saving again.

It's SOOO easy to spend money... I had JUST said that we weren't going to go out to eat for a while and save and 4 hours later we're ordering wings. SMH.

Is the windjammer all you can eat for you? and can you get your coffee there? Just wondering what's free to you.
@krista.jocelyn Жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s free but we are only allowed to go for dinner so I can’t get coffee there. We have a crew coffee bar available for purchase though!

As an engineer, i kinda want to seperate entertainment crew from the actual crew that keeps you all safe, who do not get all that free time and work day and night maintaining everything operational. Tho im an engineer in aviation engineering, but when it comes to your safety, the actual crew are the ones who know the craft, and who work on it, tho on a ship, those are way more people and some of them you actually never see on cruise ships, because they are below decks 24/7.
@krista.jocelyn Жыл бұрын
I mostly agree, though in an emergency we are the ones who muster all of the guests, are in charge of crowd control and actually ensuring they get into the lifeboats and are accounted for. Though we don't have anything to do with the operation of machinery, in an actual emergency our duties are quite important!

@@krista.jocelyn what i wanted to say with that, the actual ships crew, they do not get any free time at all mostly, there must always be people operating the ship 24/7, even when its ''grounded'', dont know hows it called correctly on dry dock for example. :p Thats why i want to kind of seperate the 2 crews.

I also want to know what life is like on a cruise ship for a crewmember in engineering. The blue collar deep in the bowels of the ship keeping everything working, doing their darndest to make sure that we are not stranded in the middle of the ocean for 4 days without working toilets.
@Swarmah Жыл бұрын
@@CaptPatrick01 most likely , like in every engioneering jobs, they are even forbidden to take phones down there, because its all classified, and you cant show to public whats it like there.

I wish I could work and live on a cruise ship. But I have no talent, old now and not attractive. 🤣
