I hadn't heard of "Power and Progress" and "The Alignment Problem", so thanks for this video. Some other books that look worth reading and that I have on my to-read list are the following: * Stephen Wolfram: What Is ChatGPT Doing ... and Why Does It Work? (2023). This is a narrow topic (it's also a short book), but since ChatGPT has been making such waves ... * J. Storrs Hall: AI: Creating the Conscience of the Machine (2007). People seem to have forgotten this book because it looks old in AI terms. * Dan McQuillan: Resisting AI: An Anti-fascist Approach to Artificial Intelligence (2022). A book that goes against the current hype. Don't be put off by the (anti-)f-word in the title. * Kate Crawford: Atlas of AI: Power, Politics, and the Planetary Costs of Artificial Intelligence (2022). For those who want to know about the environmental cost of AI. Strictly speaking, that should be all of us.

Philosophy is the study of knowledge and systems of thought. If you don't see how that applies to building cognitive systems...

@@geekazoid47 Correct, I don't and it doesn't. Feel free to delude yourself, if you see fit to do so. Philosophy is a useless waste of time, but it can be a fine hobby for people who enjoy that sort of thing.
