What I Was Offered as a New LPN in a Hospital

I’m in Arizona, and starting pay for LPNs are anywhere from 25 to 38 hour. They are even some Tim contract, and travel positions. Throat Arizona for 45 an hour.

I’m a retired LPN in the line of LTC and vent care and I covered for hospitals. I never liked hospital work and I dislike being a patient in one. I think they’re the most dangerous to be in as it is work in one. I recruited and trained many nurses in my career but heart goes out to the ones who have to work in greedy hospitals because such health care facilities are all about profits above lives. When health went from non profit to a profitable enterprise in 1973, the thing that remained non profit were nurses wages along with the sexual harassment by doctors.

@@thlp6872 Emergency medicine and also soon to be trach care. Temple health system absolutely hires LPN’s. I’m seeing mostly specialty practice jobs so far.

Medical assistant make $20-28 an hour so something is definitely off lol. Im medical assistant and in school to be a LPN now to make more. The LPN I know make $30-45 in Philadelphia.

What area are you in ? Medical assistants in my area only make $17-$21 ish. I’m also in LPN school currently and also an MA…the only reason I make $21 is cause of the experience

@@Kaynicole373 I’m in Philadelphia at pennmedicine the start pay when I first started wasn’t great but I have 5-7 years of experience now. They just hired a new MA starting at 20/hr with no experience that did extern at my place. They just change the new hire range to $20 an hour I believe because other hospitals are pretty competitive as in temple and CHOP pays MA’s way more. My old co worker left penn for CHOP and got a $28/hr offer.

Thomas, you are right. Hospital LPN pay is abysmal. I started as an LPN in Virginia 21 years ago, then moved to North Carolina within a year and tried again for a hospital job. The rate was so bad, I couldn't believe it was legitimate. HOWEVER - here's what I've found that pays highest to lowest range in the LPN world, if it helps anyone: Agency (1-2 years experience needed), home health (multiple visits per day, not one all day client), long term care, hospital, MD office. Seriously though - home health is good money, where you are visiting multiple people for wound care, disease management and education. Not a lot of LPN's know about it, and it was a life-saver after 10 years in long term care. It's good pay for RNs as well. I am an RN now, still exploring the high/low range of what is available in this role. Thank you for all your good information!

i will add on highest pay for LVNs are directors in assisted living communities. I work as HSD and my pay was $105,000 per yr salaried but got promoted to regional nurse and making currently at $145,000.00 yr. for home health, i used to be a clinical supervisor making $90,000 per yr before, i would prefer doing desk job for home health for steady pay, but if ur going into the field, have 2 home health jobs, one full time and one per diem to have a full case load, you would need to see at least 6 patients per day or 5 is good too

In my area, very few Nursing Programs accept students that aren’t CNA or LPN certified. So I’m on the road to becoming an LPN 🤷🏽‍♀️

Im in LPN school now i work as a Medical Assistant now making $15 after 9 yrs of experience i stared off at $12 a new MA so that is a slap in the face really for an LPN i plan on doing home health or wound care as a new grad LPN hopefully I start off in the $20 plus range LOUISIANA is the state i reside

It's not just Cali, I live in the great old South Florida and my base pay for LPN is $35. By the way I don't work in a nursing. I only did nursing home for 6 mos back in 2011 and have never done a nursing home since. So I'm curious to what hospital offered him $12 an hour. I just think you have to know your worth because I see RN positions here in FLA paying less than $25.

I think they tryed to play you because they already knew what you were making and felt that offering you such a low rate would work because you didn't know any different. I would have tried shoppong around at other places and I bet they would have offered more

This makes me nervous I recently accepted a LPN Nurse Residency at local hospital in my area, and they are only starting me at 22.99 as new grad. I have 9 years tech experience..super frustrating but I don't have any LTC experience only Acute/Hospital

California LVN is $38 and up.. most facilities. Some $35.. the low end offers $28-$31 are hospitals and those facilities that want to take advantage of new grads

New grad LVN here in SoCal. Waiting for my official offer but pay of LVN in telemetry floor for new grad $28/hr plus night and weekend differential so about $31 an hour. LTC would be $32-$36 an hour. Honestly I make $38 an hour working as an agency per diem CNA at one facility, so I’ll take a pay cut but I’ll have benefits and steady work. I’m also starting LVN to BSN September.
