The big thing I wish I could tell my 16 yr old self before modifying my first car would be do the maintenance first. I managed to blow my first cars motor on the highway cause I never checked simple things like coolant or oil. Do the maintenance first, it isn't as fun as modifying but at least your car will work and you won't have to replace an engine that you can't afford.

Watching this at 16 years (and 9 months) old but living in Germany and having to wait 3 more months the be allowed to get my licence and even then I have to drive with my parents for a year. And even when I'm allowed to drive I can't modify my car because German modification rules are twice as bad as California. Everything need to have a TÜV certificate and those parts are really expensive and you will constantly be pulled over and have a 70% chanceof your car being impounded. As I write this I realise that the US is a better place for young car enthusiasts than Germany (this is really depressing 😞)

Being only 21 but started modifying my 2018 gt86 since I was 16, one of the things I would tell my 16 year old self is to hold off on buying mods until I’m 100% sure I will like it. This is for mostly exterior parts but the times I’ve switched side skirts or wings instead of just sticking with 1 would have saved me the money to on bags by now.

Depends on what you want out of it? Fun lil sports coupe that can be affordable and nimble? Great. Drag strip monster? Nope. Something new and exciting yet also familiar? Check. Tear your face off fast with alll the fi noises? Maybe but probably not. It’s a great improvement over last gen, but last gen was great as well imo, at least in its own way. As 16 year old getting a license in the coming months without parent’s money because they ain’t having great money moment right now (I would feel bad if I take a cent) and inflation is in because of high government tax and Russia boycotting which could be worth the sacrifice Maxium budget I could realistically make up for myself after this year unless I find it on bottom of rainbow Is about a bit over 2000€. It is best I could do even though some guy got about 5000€ from parents and others having 15000€ ATV which is the price of my dream car, at mint condiction. I am having a hard time holding my jealousy which sucks but if you have food in table and fun things to do, you should not be really complaining because there are people in world having even bigger problems. Which means I should not buy a car with engine over 2.0 limit and inflated car prices make it harder to find good cars with that budget but I could get something like a dirt cheap toyota starlet or nissan micra. not showcar status but drivable and trying to not have too much young broke car enthusiast pipe dreams about having a too cool car and life being like a disney princess’s life like problems going away in a snap of a finger. Or maybe I should get a project celica… heheh…
@trashbandit24492 жыл бұрын
My opinion after going through this somewhat- get a fuel efficient, reliable daily first. Not a project car. I know you hate hearing this and I did too, but I ended up with horrible mpg, and then I bought a project car, still looking for a good daily. Back when fuel prices were lower it didn't matter so much but I could have saved so much money starting off with a civic or a corolla. Don't rush buying a project car, buy one that has been well maintained for a price you'll never tell yourself it was a mistake for, after you buy a daily
