'journalling is accessible as long as you allow it to be' something very important to remember, thank you

What a great start to this series! It's kind of funny because you're not the first person I've heard talk about not letting rumination take over when journaling about negative feelings. And I see that as a good thing! Of course many of us journal to remember the good moments in our life and make note of what's making us feel something "negative" in the moment, but if we wallow in it we'll never get out of it. For me personally I do use journaling as a way to write out my thoughts/feelings, ESPECIALLY if they aren't the happy-go-lucky sort. It allows me to end up describing what I'm *actually* feeling and go beyond "I'm mad", "I"m annoyed", etc. -- it allows me to get to the gist of WHY I'm feeling this way, and what (if anything) I can do about it. I can't wait to see what topics you'll be covering in upcoming videos for this series. Thank you so much!

I'd previously read that you can restore "erased" ink like in your case with Frixion pens by simply putting the paper in the freezer! It should restore the ink's visibility. Additionally, you could always try taking a rub of the pages if they've retained their indents from where you wrote.

thanks for sharing so personally about journaling. it’s refreshing to hear your healthy approach to journaling. i took up journaling in my 20s and it led to a lot of rumination, analysis paralysis and pity parties! nevertheless i am glad i talked to myself in my journals as it gave me confidence and more courage to trust in my gut instinct. moreover i learnt to catch myself whenever the journaling became unhealthy. now recently in my mid 50s, i have started journaling again, inspired by youngsters like yourself.

I relate so hard to this video - I've been loving all the videos in this channel cause your habits seem so similar to mine, even histories of journaling are similar lol. I love longform journaling and I've been doing it since I was a kid. What i loved about this video is it inspired me to start adding more elements of daily keeping in my entires instead of my usual random monologuing! lol I can't believe I haven't made sections for things I'm listening to or watching at the moment. Very excited to discover the ways I can start implementing these :)

Omgggg the way you contain your stickers is so genius. I love all four points! Especially the first point looking back it’s more of a book of your life rather than a note or glimpse. I love having my journals it’s like a yearbook from school but I can be the editor of lol

Thank you SO much! I resonated with what you said. Sitting here saying Yes, Yes as i was watching. 😊 I only started doing daily journaling this year, in the desperate hope that i could capture memories since i feel like time is flying away faster every day. And its definitely helping. Will take away your encouragement and tips from this great video. Keem them coming!!❤

I've watched two of your videos talking about ruminating, and it resonated so very much. At one point last year I just remember spiraling out of control and wrote the meanest things to myself (an outlying event for me)...I am definitely going to be more mindful about when I'm writing and how I am on the feelings scale. Great video!

This was a really helpful video, thank you! I kept a diary all through school then fell out of the habit after going to uni. A few years ago I went back, got them out of storage and shredded about 90% of the pages after reading through. Everyone I've told about this has been so shocked and disappointed I didn't keep them 😅 and I doubt I can really give a satisfactory explanation, but my writing was so filled with negativity - not just about myself and my life, but also about friends and family and everyone around me - that I just couldn't bear the thought of anyone reading it. I don't regret it, but I do feel a bit sad about the way I journalled, especially not writing more context about people and events like you mentioned! Whats up with teens abbreviating everyone down to one letter? 😩 I'm going to be starting my first journal in a decade in the new year, keeping all these lessons in mind! ❤

I really enjoyed watching this video and all the points you mentioned are so valid! I always wanted to be a journaler. Keeping a diary was something I wanted to do since childhood but the moment I got an “official” diary in front of me I froze. I had no idea what to write there. It wasn’t until I around 12-13 years ago when I started writing stories and would sit down with a notebook to plot, that those sessions would organically spill in every direction. I would write about the story I was working on and it would shapeshift into what happened in the day and then morph back to plotting the story. But then when the notebook was full, I always had the problem of what to do with it. I don’t like keeping things, I have no fireplace to throw them in and just tossing them in the recycle bin felt too much as “anybody could see them.” I didn’t find journaling peace until I got a Supernote a few years back. I create a new notebook in the device every time I start a new story. The sessions are the same type of mismatch of plotting/diary combo as it was with pen and paper. The peace part comes from knowing that when I’m done with the story, I can just delete the notebook and everything is gone.

Thank you for the suggestion to give ourselves more context for the people and events we're writing about! Last night I made a list in my journal of all my friends, acquaintances, neighbors, and colleagues so that I can remember who they are years from now.

Incredible advice! what I've had to learn (and am still learning) is that I am journaling for myself and not for some hypothetical future person to think i was a smart person who mattered.

Hi Lindsey! I'm really enjoying your channel! I have been journaling for several years as well. Tip #1 resonates with me-- I have journals that span multiple years and I didn't write the full date!🤡 For a while I found it helpful to have a dedicated journal for my dark days.

do i even need to share my experience when all I say is, "SAME"? PS. your second lesson goes straight through me because I've struggled with this degrading impact of journaling on me since the pandemic. I've used writing to distract me, only to realize that I've filed hundreds of pages with useless thoughts that didn't help me at all. Instead, it caused me to spiral and I've avoided journaling emotions since then. I tried to keep them as rigid and objective as possible, suppressing any need to be too raw again. So thank you for those three points, I feel like journaling doesn't need to be so rigid anymore.

These are fabulous tips and very informative. I have also been journaling for most of my life and totally agree with each one! Two things in particular resonated with me: One, morbid reflection is not good for anyone. Getting the negative ick out is really important, but I don’t have to revisit it; Second, any journaling is good journaling! Thank you so much for your thoughtful content. I have ordered a Hobonichi Cousin Avec A6 for journaling! Thank you for the inspiration 😊
