What mistakes did you make in Japan? What would you tell your past self? This video talks about what I wish I knew before moving to Japan. I first came to Japan in 2015 and there are a lot of things I thought Japan was that ended up not being true. There was plenty of culture shock the first time I came here.

Knowing survival phrases really saved my butt during that first trip to Japan back in 2015. Here is the software that did it. imp.i271380.net/c/2397166/840241/11472 I recommend spending a few weeks learning some phrases and then getting a language partner to practice with on this app brc.hellotalk.com/OrientalPearl

@@OrientalPearl .. and .. not 'hating' on either of the two cities .. which I have never been to .. but the same thing applies to Houston and Dallas where I have lived. I have passed through Seoul South South Korea . and I can say it is nothing like the Korean countryside and suspect the same thing for any large city in any country. It's just .. I was watching a video the other day of some Australians visiting the US and where did they go? Los Angeles. I think they would have had a better introduction if they had spent some time in rural Oklahoma, the hills of North Carolina. Heck .. New Orleans is nothing like small town Louisiana.

Countryside and City can be completely different worlds in Japan, just like any country really. Japan has *ben* or accent/language. City-ben and Country-ben can also be different too.

It’s great to learn that Japanese society is not so strict. I did have the impression that there were lots of rules. However, I still here from other KZbin channels that document life in Japan that there are still “customs” in the workplace that foreigners working in Japan have to adjust to: like asking your “senpai” out to lunch, bringing gifts back from your vacation for your work group, not leaving work until your boss, or co worker, is ready to leave, etc.

I totally agree people in tokyo may be cold compared to other places. But as i grew up in countryside of japan, i just want to share my opinion. When we live in the urban side, the countryside is always nice to ''visit'' though it doesn't always mean it is also nice to ''live'' in. People in countryside is more conservative and may not be tolerant to foreign culture and way of behavior. Tourists are always welcome but it is because its temporary. It is different story when we try to be part of their community. People in cities, somehow is indifferent about others. They don't wanna(or they can't) mind business of others. That makes them seem cold in general. People in city adores countryside and vice versa. They both have positive and negative side. So lets balance them. Guess Fukuoka may be a good place for that

Thanks for another great vid. It might be interesting showing a comparison of the Orient vs. Occident work ethic. Many firms in Japan still start the work day with exercises designed to create a bond between the staff as well as creating a mindset conducive with a hard days work. Getting workers in the US or UK (especially construction or metal workers), to do the same, would be I believe impossible. In this regard, I believe that the oriental method is superior.

I'm really enjoying this travelogue style of video - it really gives such a rich, well-informed picture of Japan. The only thing I'd say is to perhaps pace out the voiceovers a little bit more - some of them were a bit quick, which could make them more difficult to follow for non-native English speakers (as well as making cutting between sentences more difficult in the edit).

It looks quite suburban to me and doesn't seem rural or "countryside" more like a small city and quite close to the city center at that. In the US I like to use the number of stoplights as a measuring tool, 1 - 5, Rural Boondocks, 5- 10, developed town. I bet you could use the train stop frequency to measure how rural the area is. If you are still getting a train every hour than it's probably not Rural yet just a suburban commuter town.

Unlike Japan where the apt is empty *including the light..you have to buy your own ceiling light fixture and remove it when you leave* China does have traditional sleeping rooms where you sleep on the floor but usually beds lol Japan it's normal to sleep on the floor *futon or futon style folding bed*

I only subscribed to you recently, but I am really enjoying your videos so far and learning more about some of your different cultural experiences! I also got a little excited when I heard you were a fellow Michigander. :) I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos and hope you're staying healthy and safe!

Thank you for giving some insights on what’s outside Tokyo. It would be great to have the opportunity to get some first hand experience but I’ve accepted that it won’t be an option for quite some time so it’s very nice to see your perspective.

Oriental Pearl oh no doubt. Covid is making it pretty difficult. I had a trip planned for July but I’m guessing that it’s going to be somewhere around July next year. No vaccine means losing 2 weeks because of quarantine.

Thb the country side of Japan kind of looks like a mix between Brampton and Barrie. I used to live in Toronto but moved to Brampton. I used to hate how far things where in Brampton compared to Toronto but now I don't mind it since I been living up here for a few years. I visited Barrie 3 times. If you ever vist Ontario Canada during the summer vist Berry it's beautiful. There is farm land for miles and the lake up there is vary nice. It's almost as nice as Niagara but less noisy vary peaceful tho if you ever want to vist anywhere up there you WILL need a car xD.

I went to Kyoto for a month long study abroad. It was so amazing, but felt way too short. I just graduated in the US and got a job, but I hate staring at a computer all day programming, even though it's good money. I'm thinking about studying abroad in Tokyo now, I appreciate your videos!

@@NationChosenByGod But their tendency to follow codes stems from the fact that they tend to be more disciplined in almost everything day do compared to others. In order to achieve that they follow codes which they identify as a benchmark. Its because they bow to the process they follow and do better than anyone else.

I was surprised by what is considered countryside. What I saw would be called wasteground where I live meaning broken and undeveloped (or previously developed but no longer in use), not a natural untouched piece of land. Makes me feel both fortunate and sad.

I love all your videos! I moved here almost a year ago and I knew little to nothing about the country, the people, the culture, and the language. I have fallen in love with all the aspects of this beautiful country. I haven’t gotten a chance to travel past the Tohoku region because of COVID but I have traveled all over northern Japan and it’s so beautiful and quaint. I would have never imagined it being so peaceful because all I have seen is “city life” (Tokyo) on television. I would advise people to really see Japan outside of the city life like you mentioned. It’s really amazing and I have learned so much in a year :)
