I LOVED this video! 💜🇺🇸🇩🇰 The primary thing I would tell myself is forgive yourself. You are lovable and forgivable. You are worth far more than you know. Stop pleasing others while forfeiting yourself. They are never truly pleased no matter how hard you try. Live to please yourself while showing love, care and acceptance to others. Embrace all that makes you seem weird or strange because that is who you truly are. Being unique and different is a glorious thing. Just be! Just be you! Thank Helle for making me think this way. It’s nice to look back at age 55 and note how far you’ve come and how much you’ve learned. Thank you my new found online friend…💜

Hello Hele. I found your channel when looking for learning the Danish language! For some reason ive become very interested in Denmark. Anyway i love your musings and find them very relaxing. I love the way you speak. I also love the sweaters you knit. Thanks for being there. Glad we all made it out of the lock down.

What a FANTASTIC post!! I have saved this one to my favorites to watch again and to share!! Wonderful words of advice on so many things!! I think if I could tell my younger self anything it would be that time would speed up exponentially and not to wait till "later" to do things in life!! It is like one day I woke up and wonder how the Hell did I get here this fast!!! There are so many things I want to do, why did I think I didn't have time when I was younger?

Wonderful content! I can find a lot of myself in it. What I would say to my younger self: give yourself time, do not rush things, they will come when it is the time for it….. I spent 20 years in the US and now I am back to Poland by my own choice… I am a little lost now… not sure where I belong anymore…. But I think that time will show… Accept that life has ups and downs and be thankful for all…

"One day, in retrospect, the years of struggle will strike you as the most beautiful" (Freud). If I could tell my younger self anything it would be......... I will need to think about this answer Helle, I'll get back to you . But suffice to say it won't be in agreement with Freud!!! A beautiful video and insight into your life, thankyou for sharing. And by the way you are still young with a wonderful sprightly step, with a wisdom beyond your years. 🌹
@danishmusings2 жыл бұрын
You are too kind, Brian (*blushing*). I think I’ve heard that quote before, though I wouldn’t have thought Freud could be that poetic. But no, I’m not sure I agree with him either (nor on various other things, for that matter). Some things I could certainly do/have done without. Do get back to me if you think of something - and thanks for a lovely comment 🌤
@briangronan51002 жыл бұрын
When people transcend into adulthood, they mostly do it with a best friend or maybe a couple of friends. The adventures and escapades, laughs, tears and embarrassments, shared. As you get older, new committed relationships form, spouses, children, career/work. In many cases (like mine), when life starts to slow, some of your most treasured memories and fond stories are with people who no longer share your life. I wish they did... So Helle, in answer to your question.. If I could tell my younger self anything, it would be... Buy as many shares as possible in a little tech company called Apple.😉

@@briangronan5100 From wise and contemplative to pragmatic and cheeky 🙃☺️ But yes on all counts, Brian. It’s almost inevitable to look back and not sometimes feel a twinge of … something, not regret but maybe a kind of bittersweet melancholy: so much is over, some people are gone from our lives - but we’re still here 😌🤍

That little walkway you went on near the end was quite metaphorical to life's journey - you never know where the uncertain path will take you; but might be pleasantly surprised by both the journey and destination, despite the challenge.

I want to go to Denmark, it seems so calm there and your words of wisdom are so spot on. Especially when you said good for you about not listening to your father when he said don't go to India, you can do it later. So TRUE! You need to do it now, who knows if you'll be fortunate enough to be around later.

I had to send this video to my daughters. Your words are so inspiring better that I could get across to them. Then again they would listen better to someone else more than their own mother. I like the part about a mother's annoying habits and expressions. My famous words I still say to my mother is "and this too will pass". She asks me how I got to be so wise. I just smile back at her. Thank you for your writings they touch me deeply.

You know, I have learnt to go with the flow, so to speak, I just do the best I can, and hope that is enough!, Both my parents are gone, and I do regret not listening to them more, and spending more time with them! And that seems to be the case with so many of us!
@danishmusings2 жыл бұрын
Good for you, Katherine, and yes, very true. I think my main ‘pain’ then came from my mom dying too young, when I was newly divorced and a single parent. It was kind of a double whammy, and it took me years to ‘recover.’ Acceptance, I think, is key 🌷

I was in graduate school with 3 children under 13, working part time and both parents died within 10 months of each other. We were left with three properties and 2 pets. I was angry me because I had to work so hard and lost fun times with our sons. I beat myself up for handling it all rather badly. Then I realized I was just overwhelmed, something I see many 40 somethings deal with. I was doing my best to survive. I finished my degree 3 months after losing my mother in law, a lovely woman. This was a year after losing my mother to cancer. Life is much calmer and easy now that I am in my 70’s. I am an introvert and usually have preferred my own company but see friends who interacted more with others. I kind of wish I now had those experiences but glad for who I am today that came at a cost of more friendships. I still work on accepting myself just as I am and not trying to change myself. We are a work in progress all of our lives.

One thing about me in teenage time was that I was very much worried about what people think. But now less care about what they think and i learned to accept failures. I think every people has to reach their late 20s or 30s to reach this attitude.
@danishmusings2 жыл бұрын
I agree, George. It seems to be characteristic of our younger years to compare, and less accepting in general (at least for most of us) to accept failures and accept ourselves as we age 💙
