I think this wait was a good thing! If 2.2 came out that early, people wouldn't even try to push the limit of the editor, I don't even know if we could have seen levels like White Space or Change Of Scene. 2.1 was a great update and the community only made it better and better through the years.

You can ask by yourself to these creators, I'm pretty sure in early 2.1 creators would have said it's impossible to make levels like Spu7nix, XenderGame or even Bli today (if you find a way to go back in 2017 you can try to ask them lol 😅)

I feel like if GD 2.2 came out in 2018, then the community would’ve looked back less fondly at 2.1. This might be a hot take, but I feel like that the GD community was at its most pessimistic state back in the early 2.1 days. People at the time were talking a lot about how bad the community is and some were even saying that the game could die in a couple years (which thankfully didn’t happen). And like you said, the 2.1 features back in the early 2.1 days were not used to its full potential. This caused the levels to not be as good in early 2.1 as they were in late 2.1. These are the reasons why I prefer the late 2.1 era over the early 2.1 era of GD honestly. Nowadays, in the game’s current state, a lot of people do look back at the 2.1 era of the game fondly. But had 2.2 come out in 2018, then I feel like more people would have a distaste for the 2.1 era because of the reasons I mentioned above.

Hot take - I think your version of 2.3 would be split into 2 different versions: I would say the actual 2.3 would be more about adding standard game mechanics (i.e. spider orbs, arrow triggers, gravity strength, etc.), while "2.4" would be when we'd get platformer in its current stage as well as a few other game mechanics like time warping. Shaders might be split in between these updates, but I believe the audio library would be implemented like it is now in my version of "2.4" from what I take of it... As for the main levels, this order is what I thought of: 22: Explorers (seen here) 23: ?? (I wish it's a Camellia song) 24: Dash (since I'm assuming its to commemorate GD10)
