(Edit: typo)

Let me tell you something: I am an Asian living in the UK and when I git here as a 13yo I experienced extreme amount of racism at school. It was unbearable. The teachers were very polite and so I would literally repeat a mantra "Not all English people are the same". Especially touching moment for me was when I as a muslim (from Kazakhstan and yes we are east asian looking) when I went to the mosque and so a brilliant English gentleman who was the best person I have met. I remember one 5-10 minute conversation would make me forgive all the perpetrators of hatred. I wish there were mor like him. I still talk to him and see him once im a while. Seek good in evil and it will break it. I am sure of it. Keep strong and keep healthy!

A few days ago I saw a program in my country and a man who is a "humorist" he said something that was very racist like a joke towards an Asian person. I found it disgusting that his joke is taken so naturally and they don't see it as racist. Even my relatives can be racist but they don't realize it because at the time it was naturalized a lot. I'm from Poland and I love Korean history and culture. There are so many painful, similar experiences in our and your history that I personally consider the Koreans to be a brotherly nation. In a few months, I will be lucky enough to set foot on Korean soil for the first time. I understand that it's a social experiment, but if something like that really happened to me, it would break my heart... Well done to those people who reacted so beautifully in this film. 👏🇵🇱🇰🇷❤

A lot of people (Koreans and non Koreans) see Poland as the European equivalent of Korea due to the historical similarities they share. Both were squashed between Germany and Russia, and between China and Japan respectively. In that perspective, Germany and Japan are in the similar position and so are Russia and China. I think it’s an interesting analogy to use when I learn about the European and East Asian history in this way.

I've always said, South Korea is my favourite country because of the South Koreans. I only visited Seoul and was there for only 5 days but I travelled solo, got lost in the middle of the night and got up to many other shenanigans. What touched me throughout was the kindness and friendliness of the locals. Two guys escorted me back to my hotel premises from the gas station which I'd wandered to at 1am, unable to retrace my steps. In another instance I didn't have change and was apologising, the shopkeeper looked genuinely puzzled that I'd think to apologise over something so trivial. She immediately put me at ease with a smile and a wave of her hand, happily handing me the balance. What she didn't know was that I'd been guilt tripped for precisely this very reason in my own country. I visited two clubs in Gangnam as I'm a huge fan of trance. Had read about discriminatory policies at the door. I was stopped but only for them to check my age. The friendly taxi driver ahjusshi who dropped me off at the club asked cheekily if I want a Kr bf before pausing and answering himself that it's gonna be hard because of the language barrier (for the record I didn't, I had one albeit not Korean lol). I never felt unsafe there, people were, without exception, hospitable, warm and helpful. My heart wells with gratitude and fond memories whenever I think of it. Love y'all in Seoul.

@@nityanandmunde7366 thanks. When I was researching before going, the people that reported having unpleasant experiences seemed to mostly be men from South Asia. I'm from Hong Kong but not ethnic Chinese, I have curly hair (common among Arabs) and a pale, yellowish skintone like southern Chinese. I was afraid of being discriminated against because I look distinctly like I'm from MENA and have been confused for Latam/Pakistani/Punjabi etc. Thankfully I didn't have any bad encounters or face prejudice in 99pct of the situations I've been in while traveling. The area I did feel uncomfortable and excluded in was the Balkans, possibly because that region has a bloody history with the Ottomans. Sometimes retail workers were borderline hostile when pointing out which dishes had pork (so I don't mistakenly buy those). Other than that I've generally had positive experiences across East Asia (Japan, Kr, Taiwan, China), Europe (Hungary, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands), Southeast Asia (Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam). Don't know if it influenced how I'm treated but I usually travel with my Singapore-Chinese guy friend.
