I'd say the scramble for africa goes the same as in our timeline cuz remember austria is still (although less than in our timeline) kinda weak and maybe they don't have the naval power to maintain their colonies. And for prussia, i still think they're strong enough to hold colonies, although since the seperation of the south germans happened before 1884 (the treaty for the scramble for africa) maybe the greater powers wouldn't let north germany get as much colonies as in our timeline(so like 1-2 less colonies) Also idk if (1st scenario) britain would let greece get constantinople, probably doing an international zone or annexing it directly
@wojtekpolska101323 күн бұрын
adding so much germans to austria-hungary you need to consider that the other ethnic groups very much hated the idea. hungary would definitely demand greater autonomy if this were to happen, and all the other smaller regions would be very upset too, i think in the end such thing would only destabilise the empire
@Lazardeve_FrАй бұрын
In my opinion. The only way south germany could win is if britain was on their side. Not to say britain would most likely be on their side by default. Yes napoleon the third was an unpredictable guy, but britain and france fought against russia before. To britain. This would be their only chance to defeat the threat russia was preparing to be. But yeah. Just a tiny nitpick. Great video! :3
@yaff185128 күн бұрын
If you want French annexation of all territories west of the Rhine you have to not that some of them weren’t North German before 1871. Even if you have all of them annexed by Prussia in 1866, the South Germans will likely want them back.

Both treaties dont make sense ngl. Why would germany give south tyrol to italy? Including the german speaking area. And why would russia get almost all of prussia?
@AwwsomeHistoryYTАй бұрын
1. Italy historically wanted South Tyrol from Austria so it would (somewhat) make sense 2 give it 2 them 2. Russia was a pretty expansionist power for it’s time so giving them Polish territories up 2 the Oder river would please the Russians (unrealistically ofc)
@Masterchief_TitoАй бұрын
@AwwsomeHistoryYT Germany would have rejected the request of giving ALL of south tyrol to italy. The southern part? Maybe. But not the majority german area.

You sometimes included the Grand Duchy of Hesse and by Rhein (Hesse-Darmstadt) as part of the south, sometimes as part of the north. As a Hessian I have questions: Wich one is it?In the real timeline only the Province of Upper Hess's join the Confederation. Would it be a reversal, where Rhenish Hesse and Strakenburg join the South? And what would that mean for the wartime? Upper Hess joining Hesse-Nassau? Becoming an "independent" member of the northern confederation? Becoming a Persian province? Or ... Hesse joining nither side, dropping out of both confederations and becoming a neutral state?
@AwwsomeHistoryYTАй бұрын
Both of the Hesse’s would be a part of the South
@theman8421Ай бұрын
Weird thing about this hesse is technically apart of both confederations as in our timeline after the austro-prussian war, parts of hesse had to join the north confederation but the souther part was not, so i dont know how this all works if hesse is in both

Correction for the North German win scenario, Britain would NEVER take continental European land, as they would not be able to properly defend it also they didn't had any interest in it, also not to mention in any war Britain might get into it's obvious France would join in to retake their lost land. Edit: What a mess of a scenario, honestly, why would the South emphazise that the North wanted to opress them? That's stupid asf, also you're telling me South Germany unites with Austria and that wouldn't cause a war? After all Austria is still the same backwards collection of kingdoms, North Germany would just destroy them again. The South would do nothing to help Austria's incompetence, also in our timeline Prussia made a lot of concessions to Bavaria, the most important out of the southern states, The German Empire was a federal entity so they would retain a lot of autonomy, joining a backwards collection of lands with nothing in common doesn't seem so appealing to a modern and really industrialized nation in my opinion, sorry I just don't see any good reason to join with Austria rather than Prussia, the similarities with Vienna are good and all but this ignores the state of both nations (also Prussia had already made a deal with the South that if any nation (France) attacked them they would join the war and possibly unite), they had no future as independent. Alliances that are impossible, you're telling me RUSSIA AND AUSTRIA would ALLY? That's straight up fantasy, Germany has nothing Russia needs or wants, the spoils are just bad for Russia, more people that don't want to be a part of your empire. I don't see this being a realistic scenario at all

0:30 btw just know the map of the "german speaking world" at 0:30 is not very accurate, i know its from wikipedia but it vastly overestimates german speakers, for example counting all hebrew speakers as germans. (for example the city of Łódź, it never in it's history had more than ~14% german population, but the map shows it as completely german, probably because ~35% of the people there were jewish at that time [and the rest ~50-55% were poles depending on various sources])
