Really great how many people tried to give her a wholesome and heartfelt meaning. Unfortunately, in Asia, the reality of being an orphan/adopted will hit that person as they gets older. While they may not face the full brunt of prejudice in the job market they will definitely face discrimination in the dating/marriage market - especially to a family where linage and blood lines are prioritised over love and partner compatibility.

Not just Asia that this happens sadly. Being adopted is a minority, we have to deal with stereotypes and micro aggressions fairly often no matter where we live.

Not related but I have a cousin who is adopted, all of us in the family knew that she is adopted(my aunt didn't know that my cousin and I knew it so we're pretending that we didn't know). We treat her just like our own family but I'm scared that one day she might know truth from other people, what would she feel? what if she'll hate us. I'm just sad for her:(

when I was a child I found out that I was adopted and that in the shelter where I was, I had 3 brothers, 2 older and one younger. We were separated and it affected my entire adolescence, I honestly felt bad until today. I hope they were a gift to their new parents, and I hope they are a gift to me too..... I'm already of age but I'm afraid to seek them and be rejected... Their perspectives helped me too

제 친구는 5살에 양부모님께 입양되어 25년째 양부모님의 딸로 크고 있습니다. 12살이 되어서야 입양이 뭔 지 알았지만 친부모님을 미워한 적은 많아도 양부모님을 미워한 적은 단 한 번도 없대요. 양부모님이 자신을 너무 사랑해줘서 오히려 고맙대요. 제 배 아파 낳은 자식도 아닌데 이렇게 훌륭하게 키운다는 게 보통 일이냐면서. 결혼해서 애까지 낳아 사는 와중에도 여전히 양부모님을 자주 찾아 뵙는다고 합니다. 중요한 건 입양이냐 아니냐가 아닌 정말 제 자식처럼 예뻐해줄 수 있느냐 아니냐 아닐까요?
