What if All Pokémon Were Only a Single Type? (Johto)

It's all too common for Pokémon to have multiple types and get the best of two separate elements, however what if they couldn't? What if, say all the Pokémon in the Johto region could only be ONE type at a time? This would change things quite a bit with certain types no longer being available on some routes, or other types becoming incredibly rare altogether, but Johto already trended in that direction anyway...

Its dex entries in gold say that the only reason it lives at the bottom of the ocean is “because its powers are too strong,” presumably meaning psychic powers. It’s definitely more flying type than anything else though, given its numerous dex entries about wind powers, it being the guardian of the legendary birds, and its signature move being flying type

I understand that MandJTV pretty much did the same thing, but it's not like giving extra types to Pokémon is such an "out there" idea that nobody else could have had it independently from you. In fact, many years ago, long before your series of giving mono type Pokémon second types, he did a similar thing in concept, which was a Top 10 list of Pokémon that could have had three types, based on their anatomy, environment and movement. So it's entirely possible he came up with the idea of the dual typed Pokémon video independently from your series.

I am completely comfortable with the Spinarak line being pure Poison (Not only because we only have 4 Poison type in Johto, but also because them also being pure Bugs overshadow Ledyba line). Chinchou line is another thing that is good, since not every Pokemon that live in the Water needs to be Water type in itself (Look at how Avalugg is portrayed in Sword and Shield and Scarlet and Violet for example).

Don't forget Avalugg in Snap too! But actually if Spinarak HAD been pure Poison it, along with Nidoran might have started another trend of a "regional Poison type" in the early game which would be a cool change to think about!

I can see what you were going for with making Heracross a Bug type, but I think it would actually be cooler if it was a Fighting type. Since Bug and Fighting resist each other, the Pinsir-Heracross rivalry would still work, while still maintaining more than two Fighting types for the Johto region.

I'm imagining Pokemon games add another mechanic to their monsters based on their physical characteristics and designs, especially if each one is monotype.. Can fly? Built in Levitate ability. Rocky exterior? Built in Battle Armor. Made of steel? Get steel resistances and weaknesses. Is a plant? Immune to powder moves. There's a bunch of Pokemon who look like they should have certain abilities already but don't, so having innate abilities based on their actual appearance would be a neat wrinkle to the game

The thing about Lugia is, according to some dex entries, the only reason it lives in the deep ocean at all is because its “powers” are too strong. Since some entries specify when it is its wing-power(?), and the word “powers” on its own like that frequently relates to psychic ability, we can assume this is relating to its apparently extremely strong psychic powers

That being said, ik moltres was fire, but I feel like it makes more sense to have ho-oh as fire and Lugia as flying because of their signature moves. Plus, Ho-oh more so just happens to have wings, as with other Pokemon that lost their flying type, while lugia’s lore is all about using its wings to create month-long storms and blow down entire cities.

I would go with; H-Typhlosian - Ghost P-Wooper - Ground G-Slowking - Poison H-Qwilfish - Dark Shuckle - Rock (The bug type has always been the less obvious one to me) Sneasel - Dark (All its dex entries talk about how vicious and cunning it is, its ice nature is never referenced) H-Sneasel - Poison Lugia - Flying (Signature move is flying, dex entries talk about the destructive properties of its wing flaps) Ho-oh - Fire (It is a phoenix. A creature that can resurrect itself through self immolation.)

I would keep Magcargo as a rock type because not just because of the shell it it's back, but also he is based on Lava which is the liquid version of rock, so this pokemon is just a heated rock turned lava with a rock on it's back

Honestly such a bizarre (and frankly childish)reaction to someone having the same video idea as you. I've had people both larger and smaller make videos on topics I covered before, and I've nade videos only to learn that someone Id never heard of did one on the same topic too. Thats just what happens when you're making videos on a popular series that other creators also focus on. Making monotypes into dual types isn't so hyper-specific as to act surprised when someone else has the same idea as you.

Falkner only uses the Pidgey line (like not even the Jotho early bird, what??) but birds are only Flying now, so that fits anyway. Bugsy as well only uses Kanto bugs which are now only Bug. As well as Monty only using the Ghastly line which is now only Ghost. (What's up with these Jothonean not using Jotho Pokés?) Whitney has the (in this generation) pure Clefairy and of course Miltank, so no change and all good. Chuck again has only Kanto Pokés, the pure Fighting Primeape, and Poliwrath which is now changed to Water. At #5 a mixed type Gym is absolutely fine, the 1:1 ration acceptable though we could add a Hitmontop to emphasize the main type and not have a #5 gym only have two pokémon. Also with being an island a water type makes sense and Poliwrath still has Fighting moves nonetheless. Jasmine has the now pure Steelix and Magnemites which are changed to only Steel but still have Electric moves fitting to the Lighthouse theme. Pryce has now a super mixed team, with pure Water Seel going to now only Ice Dewgong and adding in now only Ground Piloswine, but all of them use mainly Ice moves, and the different types would give a good challenge while the Jotho gyms really have some other problems. Claire has the pure Dragonairs, in GSK the now Dragon Seadra and in HGSS a Gyarados that's not even Dragon in the first place, but a sea horse and a sea serpent fit well together, and though her gym itself contains lava instead of water, there's a lake behind it and a water cave, so Dragon/Water fits together.

A lot of people are mad at MandJTV and Emperor Cubone for that callout. I don't think Mikey (MandJTV) would just steal the idea. Maybe he didn't know Emperor Cubone had made videos on it. Though a simple search on KZbin would have been good. And while the idea is very broad and anyone could think of it, Mikey should have at laest mentioned Emperor Cubone in his video. Especially since Cubone's videos go much more in depth. Mikey's video only covered the final stage pokémon and went over everything much quicker.

I would have HootHoot be normal, and Noctowl be flying. I like Crobat becoming flying as a metaphor for the friendship evolution curing it. Togetic shouldn't have gotten flying anyway! Those wings are way too small. Fairy, and magically flying, makes far more sense. I'd make Lugia be water, and Ho Oh be fire. Lugia should have had water in the first place.

Hard disagree on Lugia and Ho-oh. Lugia’s sig move is flying type and Ho-oh’s is fire type. Psychic has always been a throwaway typing for Lugia, so they should be Flying type IMO

It's been three years dude. At least for that one specifically, it's happened other times a few weeks or months later, but he had to have seen it. The only other person I could find on KZbin who did that exact topic was a guy with like 200 subs, but also years after mine. Anybody can use my ideas if they want, but just please note where you got it...
