The Amtrak San Joaquin’s is currently planning to buy enough Ventures to replace every set. Once this happens, i heard the Bilevel sets would go to the Surfline (2 or 3 of them) and the rest would go to the Capitol Corridor. Yet I doubt that would barely be enough to satisfy whatever schedule this is.

It’s been in the maybe we will do it phase for 3+ years now. 4-5 sets would be 110-175M mattering on exact pricing right now. Meanwhile the states dropped 210M on 10 hydrogen “demo” trains and 80M on a battery KISS

Would I like to see hourly frequency? Sure. But I would much rather see them improve frequency north of LA than use the limited equipment they could scrounge up to increase frequency south of LA. Combined with Metrolink and Coaster, it's actually pretty decent LA to SD. It can always be better, but It's honestly not bad. What I really want is increased Metrolink service to the IE so I could actually get to the Surfline. LOL

For the northern segment I would just add 30 min service to the Ventura county line off peak and then build a separate maglev service between LA and San Luis Obispo making stops at Santa Maria and Santa Barbara and act like a super express service then go beyond to areas served by the riverside line then to Phoenix Arizona

Alstom would be the perfect choice for new doubledecker coaches and some MP36PH's from commuter railroads like Caltrain, MARC and Metrolink would be very handy if they were sent into WABTEC and converted to a Tier 4 style. Something like MT44PHAC with AC traction, 4,400 horsepower and intercity service modifications. But honestly, the current timetables absolutely stink.

Not only that, but wouldn't be something if there was a train that stopped at all the Coaster AND Metrolink Orange County Line stations between San Diego and L.A. Union Station, meaning you'd have a train stop at Old Town, Sorrento Valley, Solana Beach, Encinitas, both stations in Carlsbad, Oceanside, one of the current Metrolink stops in San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, Laguna Niguel, Irvine, Tustin, Santa Ana, Orange, Anaheim, Fullerton, Buena Park, Norwalk/Santa Fe Springs, and Commerce. It would also be great for those in my old region to eventually get commuter rail service from San Diego to Riverside via Escondido and the Inland Empire (in addition to the currently planned CAHSR line connecting the Inland Empire to San Diego), as well as rail service from Irvine to the south end of LA Metro's current K Line service in Redondo Beach (the portion the C Line from LAX to Redondo Beach is about to become part of the K Line), so that there's continuous rail service from Irvine to Santa Moncia that serves the coastal cities of northwestern Orange and southwestern Los Angeles counties, which would include John Wayne Airport, LAX, and east-west service through Long Beach, possibly connecting with the A Line near the PCH (I'm not sure the A Line's downtown Long Beach station in the A Line's loop at the south end of the A Line is that great of an idea to connect a future Irvine-to-Santa Monica line to the A Line in Long Beach).

@cjs831722 ай бұрын
@@sdsk8rboi I actually think the two entities (Coaster and Metrolink) should combine for one or two trains a day that do just that, stop at all the commuter rail stops between the two lines without passengers having to transfer from one to the other. Actually, some time the pandemic hit (and I didn't know this until earlier this year), Amtrak stopped at all the Coaster stops on select trips, and there's one or two Amtrak trains that stop at all the Metrolink stops during the day, between when Metrolink runs those lines during peak hours.

What this railway really needs is double track from LA to San Diego and 25kV electrification. Straighten it out where possible and get the journey time down to well below what it would take to drive. Increase the frequency to well over one train per hour. The USA can rebuild its passenger rail network, one city pair at a time.
