What if Doctor Who Ended in 2017? | The Doctor Falls Fan Edit

To mark 15 years since New Who aired, I decided to make this inspired edit of WHAT-IF the show ended with Peter Capaldi's run and went on a short break. Something I personally think the show needs... nonetheless, this an ode to my childhood and the fantastic history of Doctor Who. Enjoy!

I think it would have been phenomenal if Capaldi regenerated back into Hartnell and had the entire thing looped. Would have been perfect.

i was thinking of something like: you have Capaldi there lying down, dying, and in his final moments, we get a flashback to him leaving Susan using old footage from Daleks Invasion on Earth. Hartnell gives the whole speech and leaves her, and she starts to walk away, sad look on her face. You then cut quickly to a dying Peter, who´s smiling. Then, we go back to the Susan scene, she´s about to leave with David when we hear the TARDIS noises. She turns back and smiles, and the TARDIS reappears(could be done through editing maybe), and then the credits roll. It´d be a bittersweet ending, the Doctor dies for good but in his last moments he is happy, not only because he managed to save everyone but also because he dreamt he was going back, to see his granddaughter again. In a way, since Susan is probably dead, that could symbolize him reaching the "afterlife".

Also another implication of this ending is that the doctor never actually got to see Susan again, which is very fitting for the doctor, who is always running from place to place and also kinda sad

As far as myself and many are concerned, Doctor Who ended when Peter left. The shows been irreparably ruined, but we have SO MUCH great Doctor Who to rewatch, as this fantastic video shows.

@@friendlyinflation8595 I always liked the idea that when 12 asked "Can't I ever have peace" that he remembered about the Curator (Day of the Doctor) especially with him comment about revisiting Old favourite faces (in Twice upon a time 12 meets 1) and then he regenerates into the Curator finding peace in his retirement. That's how I imagine the show ended because honestly it went down hill massively with the series 11 and yeah I consider all the new stuff to be fanfic haha. Great video and tribute as well :)

But your ending with the regeneration energy at that last spilt second would've opened the show up for a reboot years later as well so your way would've been brilliant actually :)

I've seen a fair number of these alternate endings, and yours is easily the best. I say that both in terms of sheer quality of editing (seriously, this could've been part of the official product, and I wouldn't know the difference) and emotional resonance. I'm still trying to make up my mind whether I consider the show to have ended with The Doctor Falls or not. But I can easily say that if this was the way it went to air, I'd be quite satisfied with the result.

Yes, this really works. I was thinking about doing exactly this funny enough! It would have been an appropriate ending for the show, at least for the foreseeable future. And also it would mean Twice Upon a Time never happened, which isn’t such a bad thing thinking about it.

ive wanted to make an edit very similare to this for a while now but it looks like ive been beaten to the punch! This was amazing, so well done. In my heart Doctor Who's finale will always be Twice upon a Time because everything that's come after it has been terrible. Fantastic job on this edit!

I wish it ended with the Doctor joining Testimony and having a peaceful death... It would bring the show full circle. You could have him send the TARDIS to Trenzalore so it's there for Eleven in Name of the Doctor, you could have him be able to go around and wear all his previous faces so that would explain how he shows up looking like an older version of the 4th Doctor in Day of the Doctor. Heck, maybe the final scene could be him going to that museum as a Testimony glass guy, transforming into Baker, and saying "I'd like to become your curator" to whoever is running the museum. Matter of fact, the person running the museum could be Susan! They could bring back Carole Ann Ford for that one scene!!!

they should...... i personally wish they gave more references to past companions, like we get audiodramas sure but like give us a spinoff of ace, romana and how she was impacted from the time war and why we never see her, jo grant could have her season in the amazon, like just make it a side thing like "CompanionWho"
