38:42 I do remember in the first (Disney) Thrawn novel, he told Nightswan that if the empire or the galaxy at large was an unsuitable ally to the Chiss against the Grysk, that he would weaken it to make it them seem like a more tempting target while the Chiss came up with a better plan to deal with they're enemy. I feel like that is what he'd do when he starts to realize the empire was failing and the new republic was going to rise. (And maybe a little bit of spite for losing as well.)

What if Barriss Offee started a peaceful protest inside the council chamber instead of bombing the temple? What if Ezra Bridger pulled Vader into the world between worlds by mistake? What if Ahsoka won the Darksaber from Pre Vizsla? This would have the knock-on effect of Maul being unable to take over Mandalore, so he never gets on Sidious’ radar, and things could play out very differently from there. What if Ventress killed Barriss and un-framed Ahsoka for the temple bombing? What if Barriss killed Ventress and framed her instead? What if Alderaan destroyed the Death Star? Quite literally- a big lump of the planet gets yeeted up and craters the big laser dish, crippling the entire station. What if Ahsoka stayed with Rex and joined the clone rebellion? What if Tarkin misremembered his half of the secret hyperspace coordinates so the entire Separatist fleet arrived at Coruscant and crashed straight into a moon? What if Ezra saved Kanan Jarrus in the world between worlds and reality started falling apart? There was an episode of Doctor Who that did something like that with Rose Tyler’s dad. What if Ahsoka died during the clone wars, but Anakin did a WandaVision and subconsciously created a Force projection of her that he didn’t realise wasn’t real? No mind control necessary, everyone else knows what’s going on. What if the clone wars was a live action TV show, but one of the actors hit their head in a stunt gone wrong and woke up thinking they were a real Jedi? What if Ahsoka opened a hair salon called Snips after leaving the Jedi?
