Azeer is strong but inexperienced, whereas Goku has decades worth of martial arts training under his belt. And it should be noted that even SSG Goku only managed to entertain Beerus, not actually challenge him, but he was more curious about the legend of the Super Saiyan God, so even if he might have lost interest in the Super Saiyan God had that search been proven fruitless, Azeer's potential as a reincarnation of Freeza who is actually applying himself through martial arts teaining instead of just coasting on his natural talent would have probably been enough to interest him, along with Earth's cuisine.
