I first heard this on the Al Franken Show in 2004 and it blew me away (like a puff of smoke). I didn't rest until I found the source. It was attributed by many to Weird Al Yankovic, even though Joan Osborne sings it. I listened to the Bob Rivers Show, here in Miami, until it ended. I spent 6 weeks in a science fiction writing seminar in Seattle in '95, one of the greatest times in my life. My first view of Mt. Saint Helens also blew me away - a classmate there kept telling me, "Look up. Look higher," until I saw the snow-covered peak and literally staggered sideways. Thanks to Bob Rivers, Spike, and Downtown Joe, I learned the names of every Washington city, I believe! Tacoma, Yakima, Everett, Puyallup, Mercer Island, Sequim, Enumclaw, Tukwila, Snohomish - I'll never forget those musical names. One of them was an island name, which I _have_ forgotten. At the end of the show, I flew to a rock song covers concert they held and got to meet and chat with Arik. I wrote about half of Bob Rivers' Wikipedia page - nearly all the material about his radio shows. Woke up with the song in my head and am absolutely thrilled to find it here on YT. Now I'll have to listen to all the episodes of their show again, lol. So nice to meet a Tacoma resident! Have a great day, my friend!
