I have an interesting proposal, and feel free to call it stupid. What if by some chance earth was discovered by blazing a route to the unknown regions, lets say about 80BBY or so, but also 2000AD earth time? How would the republic react to a decentralized planet with strong military traditions and the ability to destroy themselves while being the gateway to the unknown? Would they treat it like a more "Friendly" Mandalore? And how would we act personally, knowing that there are humans in outer space that aren't from earth? Would Damaskus just be a fancy Earth term for Beskar? Would Chef Ramsey challenge the Galaxy for top chef? It would be a longer, maybe a series length exploration and I know some people have already gone ahead and done some stuff like this, but I would personally like to see your version.

It would have been interesting if Thrawn had convinced the Imperial remnant to recognize the New Republic. He would have kept a power structure intact to defend the Chiss from whatever existential threat was waiting for them underneath his rulership, while also maintaining peace in the galaxy.

( except for a small amount of exceptions) Now in the case of Thrawn, he is not shown to be force sensitive at least in the newer books in such as “Lesser Evil”. Now if Thrawn was force sensitive it could’ve played a huge roll in his relationship with Palpatine and possibly could’ve changed the entire story when Anakin met him in the time of the prequels, if he did find out he was force sensitive. Nobody has to agree but I think it would be a fascinating what if

Maul and holocron seems the critical turning point. Kanan is blind and bit mopy Ezra literally makes a storm trooper pilot commit suicide after gunning down his comrades. He's really desensitized at that point. He's learning the dark side in secret. He's kinda like exar kun. Actively using the dark side in presence of one sith lords but on the edge before he fully embraced it. Just instead of spirit he's got a holocron of lord of betrayal? It was kreia rigjt?

I think it would have been even more poingant for Thrawn to ultimately lead the last Imperial remnant to its ultimate destruction at the cost of his own life. His true value to the rebellion only being known to a few carefully placed agents. Ke would tell the crew of the ghost, Ahsoka and whatever double agent still alive to keep his involvement a secret, to bolster faith in the new Republic rather than having them continually wondering if the apparent defeat of the Empire was just another manipulation. Thrawn would die as a villain to let the Republic cherish its victory. Those few who knew the truth would raise a quiet toast to the man who led the rebellion to victory as the rest of the galaxy celebrated his death as the ultimate defeat of the enemy.

considering that thrawn's mission was to get military aid from the empire to assist the chiss' ascendency against a threat that was yet to shown itself to the galaxy, he probably woulda joined the rebel; had the rebel's military power out-weighed the empire's military power during the time of the galactic civil war and the new republic. at the same time, having dis-stain for the emperor for purposely holding him hostage while waving the small chance for support to be given to thrawn and his people; he would've gladly betray the emperor for toying with him. And unlike most appointed crew and troop members under a imperial officer, thrawn's crew and troops highly respected the grand admiral for both being brilliant and a leader to admire.

While Thrawn is a master stratagem, where he would run into trouble with the New Republic's bureaucracy. His insider knowledge kept their military strong knowing not to underestimate the Imperial Remnants; but once all of the Empire is done away with what then? There is still the Grysk and who knows what other threats the Republic would need a strong military to deal with. If they are anything like the Republic we're seeing currently politicians and disarmament would be a fatal mistake and one Thrawn would be helpless to prevent. If Thrawn realizes this earlier enough on - he realizes what Mon Mothma would give up before the Republic was formed - then he would have to figure out some way to make the Rebellion aware of at least the Grysk. Politics is Thrawn's weakness but if he drummed up enough fear of the Grysk; Mothma and the other politicians would have no choice but to not disarm and prepare the Republic for an eventual preventative war in the Unknown Regions. Combine all of this and Thrawn would end up in a much better strategic position to defend his home than had he stayed loyal to the Empire.

to be fair ... you don't need to change Thrawns morality all that much ...just his reasoning a bit. From what I know his highest loyalty was to the Chiss So if he comes to conclusion that in the Long term the Chiss would be treated no different than the Twi'leks or the Wookies he'd probably take the only way out to save his people from slavery
