The What If SVG didn’t mortgage DET’s future rebuild! In a last attempt to save his job, Stan Van traded for Blake at 17-18 deadline. Blake just signed a 5yr/$170M+ max that offszn. He’d missed 68g+ last 2yrs also. So how about starting in like 2016-17, or ‘17 off-season, around there, & rebuilding. In the ‘17 draft DET took Kennard 1 spot before DMitch. I badly wanted Mitchell even tho I didn’t know anything about college just bc he seemed to have the higher upside & it’s DET. Obv they had many awful picks b4 that but I’ll focus on 17/18. *More details are below, like the exact trade and stuff like that…but you get the idea* The trade near the 17-18 deadline was Blake & 2 filler players (Brice Johnson & Willie Reed lol) for Tobias Harris, (still 2yrs left on a good deal, was starting to ball. Like 18/5 on 45/40/84) Avery Bradley’s expiring, (who still had value, was All-Defense like 1.5yrs prior) Boban’s expiring, a 2019 2nd, and a 2018 1st that was like T4 protected for 2-3yrs before it became unprotected. DET was like 22-26 when they made the trade. On an 8G losing streak. Needless to say it conveyed instantly. That 1st ended up being 12 in 2018. LAC ended up moving up to 11 to get SGA by trading 12 and two future 2nds. Blake balled out in 18-19, made All-NBA 3rd Team, just to scrape their way in as the 8 seed at 41-41 to play MIL. Blake got hurt at the end of the season, missed the first two playoff games (lost by combined 56) but then played injured the last two games (whoever allowed him to play hopefully got fired…he was REALLY hurt) and they end up getting swept by losing the last 2 games by a combined 39pts. Blake gave it his heart and soul that year and idk if some DET fans are salty at him, I think some are, but that’s obviously ridiculous. He randomly got traded to DET & put in work. Blame goes to ownership for hiring SVG as HC/GM & allowing that trade. Anyway it’d be awesome to see you do this. Any file you can find would be sick. Would love to start in 16-17 or 17 off-season so they can make a better pick, then rebuild. Whatever you can find tho. It’d be the 2017 draft class heading in to the 17-18 season, and like I said trade happened near ‘18 deadline. Sorry for the long post.
