Best case scenario for Napoleon would be slowing down the momentum of the sixth coalition in 1812, dragging the war until they signed a peace treaty that kept the Rhine border and recognized his son as the heir of the empire. He is sent to Elba and lives just enough to see his son crowned as emperor at age 18. Belgium never gets to exist.

With a growth similar to Germany in our world, it would be around 120 millions. Ironically France's birth growth rate was slowed by reforms of the law of succession and the Napoleonic wars, both happening in the 1800's. So if the initial french revolution had succeded, France would have had a very british influenced political system and a massive population. In the end, the revolution and Napoleon turned out to be very bad for France who could have easily been the 3rd world power nowdays.

An absolutist England might change the rest of History including America's What if the english settlers lost King Phillip's war and New England collapsed? Basically they either go to the southern colonies or back to England and the Dutch, French and natives all take parts of New England. What if the crusader states survived ? What if the Mameluks modernised and resisted the Ottomans? The Ottomans have a smaller territory and may be more focused toward Europe. What if the Imperials won the 30 years war early?

@ommsterlitz1805
@ommsterlitz1805 2 ай бұрын
He didn't killed the Duke, Talleyrand pressed everyone so the duke could be killed asap. Spain and Russia weren't mistakes Russia was building a massive army after they broke the treaty of Tilsit after they received even more money from the Uk, the Grande armée surfered the most casualties in the summer though illnesses and heat stroke while the winter was the coldest ever recorded at the time Napoleon couldn't predict it even if his ennemies called him the God of War. Spain was ruled by the incompetent Bourbon but the priest and nobles fearing that they would lose all of their privileges (witch indeed they would have) turned the population against France, so the spanish people got tricked fighting for an incompetent monarchy and to stay in serfdom.

Napoleon would had focused on developing the French fleet, not caring about the Spanish monarchy so long as they remain loyal and even assisting them in conquering Portugal. He could insist that the crown prince engage in as a minor king of the realm of Spain. Napoleon could had backed Ferdinand in 1807 who did reach out to him and insist Charles relinquish some of his authority to Ferdinand as a means to prepare him for the rule of succession. This would prevent France from destroying itself in subjucating the Spanish. And in turn France could had used that time build up its Navy, solidate itself and invade the United Kingdom. "The British Fleet is too strong." Actually, it was just dumb luck that helped the British. They weren't that invincible. If France had as many ships and had naval officers on par with best of Venice, Genoa and the Netherlands, they could take on the British and it would be a close call, more Ships and the British are done for. If Britian is defeated, the need for the Continental System would be less necessary and the need to go to war with Russia just wouldn't happen.

Also with the lack of interventions from the USA in this scenario would mean mass migration of scientists and export of technologies to the states as a results of the 2 world wars wouldn't happen. Plus Europe wouldn't be dependant on the states nearly as much, all leading to a weaker USA than irl.

@sagittariusa7662
@sagittariusa7662 18 күн бұрын
@@qgqsrg1 Also America's strength is not based on Europe's dependence on us. It is based on our geography. We have way more agricultural land and we have more resources. If America remains stable, grows, and reforms, which would probably happen if we have more intelligent people here, which would happen if your scientists moved to here, then we would actually be much stronger. America could conquer the entire world as is. Being even more advance, we could do so earlier. The idea that Europe after suffering a brain drain could stand up to us is laughable. Europe has always been the weakest of the continents and only dominated the world due to following: A) Lack of innovation in the Americas. B) Islam after the Mongols. Completely different from Islam before the Mongols. C) The Mongols. D) Lack of resistance to diseases in the Americas. E) Colonizing the Americas and innovating before colonizing Africa and Asia. So it is circumstantial. Remember Oman beat back the Portuguese and took some of their colonies in East Africa. It would be like that for all Europeans if they didn't have those five things going for them when decided to carve up Africa and China as well as subdue all of India.
@qgqsrg1
@qgqsrg1 18 күн бұрын
@sagittariusa7662 In this scenario, there is no brain drain. The USA would not get the so many technologies they gained from the world wars, directly or indirectly. Also Spain not getting r*ped by france and instead getting support from them and their allies, makes Spain much more likely to keep their colonies, actually all of Europe pretty much keep most of their colonies in this scenario. Yes, Europe's reliance on the states in our timeline is not even a major factor in US strength, "just" political and economic influence. However, in this scenario, Europe is much stronger and is still colonial, for much longer at least.
@qgqsrg1
@qgqsrg1 18 күн бұрын
@@sagittariusa7662 this is a scenario where no brain drain happen, all the scientists and technologies the USA gained thanks to the world wars, especially ww2, directly or indirectly, simply stay in Europe. IRL, Western Europe's US reliance "just" boosts US influence and economy, not a major factor in US strength indeed. However in this scenario much of Europe would keep their colonies and not have their entire infrastructure blown to pieces. Furthermore Spain who would have support from France and its allies instead of getting invaded, would also be much more likely to keep their colonies in what are today's states, for at least much longer than our timeline, actually becoming really profitable to their metropolises and not just private companies, and resulting in a likely smaller USA with much less migration from Europe. D) it isn't like Europe didn't suffer from lack of resistance to diseases, such as the Plague that wiped out half of Europe. Plus diseases delayed Europe's invasions of Africa by centuries due to Europeans surviving less than 1 year if they decided to go inland. A+E) "innovating before" isn't that a requirement for dominating? no backward society is going to dominate anything Weakest of the continents? Europe is by far the smallest continent, well except Australia/Oceana, and lets not forget the Roman and Macedonian empires. Plus no other continent have their nigh entirety link to one common religion, culture and legacy, Christianity and Rome. ie: Asia is divided in Chinese, Mongol, Indian, SE Asian, North Asian and Arabic cultures, was also gonna mention Persian but Arabs basically replaced it, as well as divided in several different religion/philosophies. Whereas in Europe pretty much everyone links itself with Rome other than Scandinavia, Ireland and Scotland, plus all of it was Christian. Simply put call a middle easterner an Asian and he will pretty much laugh at you. In other words Europe was only the weakest in the medieval ages despite its lower pop, and even then there's the Frankish Kingdom and Eastern Roman Empire for a while.

Great video! I'm currently re-reading Michael Broers' first volume of his Napoleon biography, and I generally concur that Napoleon's sense of national regeneration was born out of revolutionary principles of meritocracy and equality before the law. Despite his later naked use of power, he was actually very subtle in his maneuverings, most especially when he was consolidating his grip on France, totally blindsiding everyone else in the newly formed political elite. Nevertheless, he kept certain republican institutions alive, the most prominent ones being the Legislative Corps, the Council of State, and the Private Council which he used to discuss and arbitrate laws for consideration, negating the need for "National Assemblies" which he distrusted due to its factionalism. He used national plebescites to his advantage, allowing people only "Yes" and "No" votes to "feel" the popular mood. His government was elitist but popular at the same time, mainly because he delivered on his promises. His statecraft was entirely based on technocratic proficiency rather than popular rule, defined as "confidence from below, power from above". He promoted men of talent even if they staunchly disagreed with him, and he forced crypto royalists and ex-Jacobins to work together for him in constructing his new state. This was a pattern that he would repeat everywhere his armies marched into with varying levels of success. His view of a "united Europe" under French hegemony was almost achieved, if not for his material and strategic blind spots, namely, his inability to replace losses massive on the field (for obvious reasons), his petulance and inability to generate an equable peace with his enemies (might makes right), and his inability to make real allies (a profound character flaw). His ambition wasn't really to "rule Europe", but to create a new one entirely with Paris as the beating heart of a federated continent. This scenario is very interesting to ponder.

His worst mistake was trying to Install a ruler and invading spain. To get at portugal. He saw the Spain as backwards. This invasion was stopped when he was defeated at paris. The disastrous Russian campaign cost him alot of men. But when he made it back to his borders it was done and wasnt dragged out where he had to leave men to occupy and defend against guerilla fighters. The Spanish campaign also made him look like he could be defeated. Before this time he was looking invincible. I could go on and on. But research and you will see how costly invading the Iberian peninsula was pointless and would of gained him little. But another front to fight and defend.

Towards the end, I seriously doubt a western democratic communism/socialism could be on cordial terms with the USSR. We have Tito's Yugoslavia to compare with, and for the USSR everyone else simply had to submit to their interpretation of communism. Anything else was a threat to the stability of their system. The same would go here. A French-lead more relaxed communism could only be handled by demonizing that system and inciting the population of the USSR against them, otherwise it would cause a lot of social unrest.

Napoleon's authoritarianism is actually pretty tame compared to most empires in history and even they took centuries to collapse. Think of the Roman, Byzantine, Achaemenid, Abbasid, Spanish, Mughal, Ming and Qing empires. They all were more authoritarian and all lasted longer than Napoleon's empire. Most empires in history collapsed because of decadence, in short being so wealthy and successful that they lost the willingness to fight. Let me repeat that, the reason most empires in history fell was because they became too pacifistic. Looking at you Modern Day Europe. I will grant you one thing, high taxes is not good for holding down an empire.

He succeed and would have had complete success if he had just not over committed into a harsh Russian winter waiting for a surrender in Moscow.

He would've won if he committed to the ideas of French Revolution and proclaimed liberation of serfs of the Russian Empire. The empire would go up in flames. But that would go against the entire purpose of the Russian campaign -- show of force.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:11 🌍 *Napoleon's success hinges on avoiding the disastrous Russian invasion in 1812, allowing him to consolidate control over Europe through diplomatic finesse.* 01:40 🤝 *To secure European support, Napoleon could have granted more autonomy, avoided heavy taxation, and promoted the ideals of the French Revolution, gaining popularity across the continent.* 02:52 🌐 *The scenario envisions a lasting peace deal, reshaping Europe into a less authoritarian Continental System, led by France, and forming a United States of Europe.* 08:09 🔄 *After the Second Great War, Europe undergoes significant changes, with the fall of France leading to the rise of communism, a reshaped political landscape, and the beginning of a unique Cold War.* 11:56 🚀 *In the later years, a three-way multi-polar world emerges with the US, European Collective, and China as major players, marked by a competitive yet interconnected global scenario.* Made with HARPA AI

Europe would have been much better. Russian Serfdom would have been abolished and communism wouldn't exist as we see it today. Bourgeoisie capitalism would have been much more prevalent with some socialist policies to help the poor.
