Obi-Wan may have even contemplated not leaving Anakin there but by the time Anakin caught fire, he may have thought it was too late. He certainly didn't want to see that happen right in front of him. Such a shame. That duel was a no win situation. Anakin had turned to the dark side but what happened to him was horrific. Despite everything, Obi-Wan still had compassion and it broke his heart. Then of course if Obi-Wan had been killed, that would have been horrible. If it had been a stalemate or they had joined forces again, they would have fought each other for nothing. It's one of the great lightsaber duels but no good could come of it. Mustafar is one of the worst places for a lighsaber duel. If it hadn't taken place there, the end may not have been so gruesome.

"Mustafar is where jedi go to die". Is a phrase in the universe from before their fight. I assume you already know lol. But I just found it a nice touch that Mustafar is genuinely the worst planet for a jedi to go to.

If the duel didn't happen on Mustafar, I think it would have been a stalemate and eventually they would have spoken to each other more, possibly coming to the conclusion that fighting each other was pointless. At this point, they actually both want Palpatine dead and Anakin just wants to make sure Padme is safe, as does Obi-Wan.

Theres like a comic near to this, idk whats its named but its basically palpatine asking darth to bleed his kybercrystal to make it red, He goes to mustufar cus thats where his rage began, The light side of the kyber crystal pushed him back and turned him back to the light side, he went back to palpatine, showed his green kybercrystal and ended palpatine, then he goes back to tatooine to find his old master and ask for forgiveness.

Cool video, but one major thing is all the clones throughout the galaxy still executing order 66. After the dual on Mustafar, at that point the galaxy is under control of the first galactic empire, so they have an entire empire to somehow over throw

How quickly is all this taking place? As I recall, Obi-Wan left mere moments before Palpatine arrived. Its almost like Palpatine was on Muustafar waiting for them. Other than that small gripe, this was a good what if.

The movies editing doesnt really do the story justice cuz several things are happening all at once so quickly that it looks one way and not the way its supposed to. For example kit fisto only died to palpatine cuz he got distracted by sensing anakin coming for them, anakin actually saw most of the duel from the way the novels describe it.

I'm not entirely sure that's how it would have gone. Anakin harbored animosity for the Order on multiple occasions; turning his apprentice Ahsoka away from the Order, multiple times leaving clones to die when he knew he could save them, even ordering the bombardment of droid factories knowing there were still slaves inside, all while refusing to bring justice directly to criminals such as the Hutts and Black Sun. He would also most likely hold a grudge against the Jedi for always limiting his power and denying him knowledge that could have been used to save lives. After seeing Windu's blade at Palpatine's throat, he still would have been convinced that the Jedi had betrayed the Republic (not an uncommon idea, given how Jedi such as Dooku, Asajj, Sora Bulq, Bariss Offee, Pong Krell, etc had betrayed the Order) He intended to turn on Palpatine anyway, but after losing his limbs and suffering burns, Anakin wouldn't be in a rush to be friends with Obi-Wan any time soon.

I like the reference to the siths rule of two in this fanfic, I mean the first example is between qui ton and obi wan. Then we see it in Obi wan and anakin . ( there will come a time when the apprentice must surpass the master ) and in the siths version the apprentice kills the master but in the Jedi version the masters die protecting the padawans. Always starting with two and ending with one. To start again with two and so on... Also like the fact that the rule of two is also represented as the Skywalker twins but in a new light. Honestly good stuff

I like the analysis up until 6 minutes. There’s just too much injuries to Anakin for him to be able to fight. It’s drawing too much of a parallel to Batman recovering from a spinal cord injury to take on back-breaker Bane. Maybe a few years in seclusion where Anakin would need serious de-programing. I think this idea can be explored in a multiverse context.

Or what if he used The Force to throw lava at Obi-Wan to get him to move so he could jump up? Feel the damage was already done at this point...Even if Anakin was rescued by Obi-Wan, Order 66 was in full swing, Palpatine already consolidated everything...he would eventually go after Luke and try to recruit him when he was older, which happened anyway...He may have found some other disillusioned soul to fill Anakin's shoes....and may have had a different outcome...I dunno.

no one palpatine could find would be as strong as vader. he is the reason why the empire was dominant. vader exterminated the rest of the jedi and all hope until luke came around... without vader i think the empire would crumble very quickly. not to mention anakin would be alive and there to stop palpatine.

The entire prequel series was in the theme of the "fall of Camelot", a tragedy that we have to watch play out, even as we know what the results will be. We watch the heroes, despite their best intentions, take actions that inevitably lead to their destruction. It's painful to watch our favorite characters trapped in the web of fate. The scene between Obi-Wan and Anakin was, of course, a major plot point in this theme. At a critical point, Obi-Wan withholds his mercy. No one could blame him for this, it was an entirely human thing to do. It was a decision that was made in the agony of a terrible moment. Regardless of his thinking that Anakin was moments from death, Obi-Wan just walked away. He did not give Anakin the mercy of a death blow, nor did he try to help. I think that Obi-Wan would have offered mercy to almost any other enemy, and I think that he would have come to regret that he did not do so with Anakin, even if Anakin had died as he expected. Of course it is a huge part of the story that in leaving Anakin there, still alive and suffering, that Obi-Wan did facilitate the creation of Darth Vader. Once again, the actions of a Jedi played right into the hands of Palpatine. If Obi-wan had given Anakin the mercy of a faster death, Darth Vader would never have existed and Palpatine would have been weakened. Would it have made a difference? Would saving Anakin have made a difference? It would have changed things, certainly. I would love to think that it could have led to a happy ending, like the one in this video.

Look at it from the other perspective. Obi-Wan could have ended Anakin’s suffering by force-pushing him into the lava, killing him in seconds, or simply by stabbing him through the forehead with his lightsaber. Mercy killing. Would that have been better than simply leaving him to burn?

I'm not sure if I agree with the ending created here. A happily ever after for Anakin seems extremely unlikely considering what he had done. Not only did he betray the Jedi Order, but he also straight up murdered a bunch of children. Acting as a puppet to a powerful Sith or not, that blood is on his hands, and being told he can never come back to the Jedi after that is an EXTREME mercy. By that point, whether he was returned to the light or not, those were kids he killed and countless adult Jedi. Being told to simply leave and never come back is not only irresponsible... it's insane. No way would the Jedi allow someone as skilled as Anakin to just leave and raise his family somewhere else. And while Padmé can be pretty (stupid) forgiving of Anakin's blunders, killing kids without a second thought? I don't know about you, but I wouldn't let a maniac like that be anywhere near my kids. Nor do I think I could ever forgive him for what he had done. He might not be a Sith Lord anymore, but he's still a vile human being that you should get far, far away from. His true ending? It wouldn't be a happy one. I'll leave that to your imagination.

When I first saw Return Of The Jedi; I was annoyed to see Vader ( Anikan played by a different, older, actor originally) as a force ghost, alongside Obi-Wan & Yoda, as if the 11th hour act of saving Luke had wiped away all the $μ!+ he'd done over those first 3 movies. And that was before seeing what he did before even becoming Vader, in Revenge Of The Sith. But a lot of people seem to want to see Anikan forgiven out of remembrance & sympathy for who he once was, and might've become. They put all the blame on the corrupting influence of the dark side. And frankly, the Jedi themselves did fail him to some degrees; like not realizing that Palpatine had already started corrupting him; although Mace Windu clearly had suspicions, which is why he wanted Anikan to stay behind. And of course, supposedly Jedi don't seek vengeance. But all that notwithstanding, as you rightly said, he'd done too many vile things, and remained too much of a potential threat to be be allowed to just go about his way. Considering the omnipresent influence of the negative side of the force, it seems inconceivable the Jedi didn't have some kind of "reprogramming" or "cleansing" procedure &/or trials, and penance he'd've had to graduate. Even then, he"d not have a clean slate. MAYBE, at BEST, he'd be mercifully allowed to go into secret exile on an isolated, non technological world. IF Padre wanted to join him, she might be allowed, but taking the children, exposing them to his influence would'nt be an option. Hopefully he be truly redeemed and not start feeling he'd been treated unfairly, and want "revenge"' . Of course some Sith (Darth Maul?) might still seek him out if they found out he was still alive.

I think that anakin,obi wan and yoda going to fight palpating right after anakin was repaired was a huge mistake (alternate timeline) obi wan and anakin train for another few years and train Luke with yoda,eventually Luke,Yoda,Anakin and Obi-Wan Kenobi go to the Death Star 2 after Anakin and Obi-Wan destroyed it with Luke training with Yoda in the meantime and since in this timeline there was no darth Vader it made it very easy to assasinate palpating as well as destroy the Death Star 2 with 4 of the strongest Jedi then sequel happens after Obi-wan,Yoda and Anakin pass away with a Luke skywalker capable of taking on all three of them teaches all the little kiddos blah blah blah sequel stuff you all know it everything goes the same.

Why was he ordered to kill him when he could just have disarmed him and taken his lightsaber and put him under arrest. Like if they successfully arrested Sidous. No civil war, no Empire. The Republic survives. Just need a new Chancellor who isn't a Sith.
