looks like a pied. 1 suggestion. dont put them on pine shavings. peachicks can have a tendancy to eat the shavings and it can kill them. i always use towels for the first 2-3 weeks, when they are in the brooder. then once they are older enough to distinquish the pine , then they can be on pine shavings. just a suggestion, have have peafowl for 25+ yrs now and LOVE them. whistle when you want them to come to you, and give them treats. handle ALOT. so they are easier to handle when they are big. start talking to them and calling by name. train them like a dog and you will have the best peafowl for your family. trust me, you dont want a full grown peacock to not be used to handling, they can do some serious damage if you need to handle them and they arent used to it. you will be able to tell the sex in about 4-6 weeks if there is barring on the back - its a boy. keeping fingers crossed for the other one to hatch. blessings

How old do you think that baby is?? They said "Yay one hatched" when seeing him but I noticed he already had pins and fluffy bits on his wings. I raise quail and pheasants and no day old would ever have those...
@greatdanerescuemom16 жыл бұрын
@@parrots4life74 well peachicks are born with flight feathers. they can actually fly - well i call it leaping, - by day 2. they are not like normal birds, they needed them to get away from prey in the wild. by 1 week they will be getting outta a brooder. they grow extremly fast. so yes a day old peachick does have flight feathers. and tail feathers start also by day 2. the difference is drastic. watch and see ... hope this helps.

I have raised them for 20 + years.. off and on. I like to keep them all and then you realize you just have too many.. I always hatch under a banty hen.. No luck w/ incubators.. my incubator seems to be sensitive to lightening in our area. I use a nice straw or hay to raise them on.. that will give them footing, as something smooth makes it hard for them to stand. FYI, I find it harder to raise them then hatch them. Last year I lost 6 when they were 1/2 grown. I have always taken the time to cut weeds very small for them to eat. Weeds are their medicine as well as ours. It was exciting that you finally got your hatch.. congrats.. Best of luck with them.

Yay, I'm so excited for you guys. I'm so happy that one hatched successfully and hopefully another one on the way. After what happened with your last batch, this is such good news. My 95 year old grandfather in N.Ireland has laying peahens and either one or 2 peacocks. They are such beautiful birds. My grandfather has placed mirrors around different areas of his farm for the peacocks. They will show their beautiful peacock feathers when they see their reflection, I think it's because they think it's another male, but he also does it to keep them away from the cars as they can especially see their reflection in black cars and will scratch them up pretty bad. In the end, he had to buy car covers for anyone visiting as too many cars were being damaged! Love the insight into your life and farm, it makes me a little homesick, as I am overseas. 😊

India Blues are the most common, so that's the most likely coloration for your chicks. My friend, I love your vids. I grew up on a farm where we grew everything, including jersey cows so we could have our own milk and also sell it. Anyway, we also grew a lot of different chicks but no peachicks. But with all the others, one thing my grandfather would not allow is picking up and checking the eggs during the time the hen was setting. Now if it went overtime and no chicks, then we could check them. After I watched a few of the peachick vids, that thought came to mind. Not criticizing , just thought I'd let you know. Keep up the good farming, I so enjoy watching the vids. I'm 61 now and my health won't let me farm anymore, but the LORD is keeping me around for a reason, so I'm expecting to get well, so who knows? Maybe a small garden again one day. Blessings to you and your family.

Brilliant, what a brilliant family. I've been watching your channel because I'm a city manager to a rural hardware store, just trying to learn the ropes. Your family has been very helpful. Sorry, I have no opinion to offer, just my thanks
