You know, there are married couples who keep their respective surnames when they get married. Both Maya & Phoenix have valid reasons for keeping their surnames, too. Realistically, that's the most likely outcome. 😊 Love the video (and what it may imply) ❤

Oops, meant to bring that up in the video, but that moment ended up turning into Phoenix suggesting they combine their last names, because of how much fanfiction I see where the characters' last names are combined. My original idea for that scene, before it turned into the combined last names bit, was something like Phoenix: "Why can't we just keep our own last names, anyways?!" Maya: "Because then what's the POINT?! Taking somebody's last name is a show of devotion, and that's integral to a marriage!" Phoenix: "Isn't being legally binded enough devotion?!" Maya: "NO! I don't care what the LAW says we are, I care about what hearing YOU get called Mr. Fey!" Phoenix: "And you don't want to be called Mrs. Wright?!" Maya: "No, because that sounds DUMB!" Etc etc. Obviously I'm aware lots of people don't take each other's last names IRL, and I don't exactly agree with what Maya says it's just for the funny, but I mean, if they didn't argue over which name to take we'd have no video, soooooo lol (Pinned so other people can see this reply if they think of the same thing you did)

Honestly, I respect that people ship them but I've always seem them basically as an older brother/younger sister dynamic similar to Edgeworth and Franziska. Also it just seems kinda.....wrong since Maya was only 17 when they first met and Phoenix was 24. I guess from my perspective, if I were Phoenix I would be hesitant to get romantically involved with someone I knew when they were a teenager, especially with how people are at throwing out the word "groomer" these days.

I love the idea that Phoenix would be walked into a marriage via Bugs-Daffy style argument. Also, I'd say Phoenix would take Maya's name. Putting aside that Wright's family changed their name once already (Naruhodo to Wright, most likely when immigrating to Japanifornia), Maya's family line is maternal so there's no way the Master is getting rid of her own surname. Only way Maya takes Phoenix's name is if she hands the Master title to Pearl (which she probably should have done long ago but that's another conversation)

Phoenix Fey is not possible. Fey means doomed to die. A Phoenix is an immortal bird who literally can't die (why Phoenix Wright could survive all his crazy accidents, he is unkillable). The universe would not hold such opposites meeting each other.

*Hold It!* actually, this whole thing can be solved with a simple solution that favors all parties. a woman has the option, but not duty, to take her husband's last name. however, another option exists where a woman can instead drop her middle name, turn her surname into her middle name, and take her husband's surname. *[desk slam]* and since ms. fey nor mr. wright have middle names, if they both were to get married, ms. fey could change her name, whilst both showing her devotion and keeping her lineage. ergo, her name would just become Maya Fey Wright! i rest my case, your honor.
