A heel turn from mysterio would hit much harder than from cena. Because unlike cena, rey manage to still be beloved throughout his entire run, with a few hiccups here and there. And unlike cena again, each push he got was great and never saw him as the kind to just force people to think of him as the hero.

To add another layer: Rey will proclaim himself as “The King of Lucha Libre” or “Mr. Lucha Libre” where he becomes a menace version of himself that credits himself for making lucha mainstream. I think this could fit heel Rey because WWE has had “the luchador problem”, where WWE has had Sin Cara and Kalisto and they gave them the pressure because fans expect them to be “the next Rey Mysterio” but they didn’t live up to the expectations, so yeah that says it all
