Who would you trust more than Alex Salmond to guide Scotland to Independence? He has proved that Scots can run a very successful Parliament. To retain our very valuable resources we need Independence. Very interesting show! Thank you! 🏴🏴

If only Scotland was independent now 😢 It breaks my heart that we are not.. Alex, I'm sure Scotland would be a different place now if we were.. The SNP have got us no nearer to independence than we were in 2014.. Although, I believe under your leadership we would be in a much better place, i wish you had never stepped down.. I never understood why the SNP were known as the tartan tories, but i do now under the current party.. Had you not stepped down, what would you have done to get us closer to independence?

What if Scotland voted for Independence in 2014? The SNP would have been kicked out and we would have had a serious government working for us all, not against us. We would have seen the rise of new parties offering real world solutions to our daily problems; our own Nationalised Energy provider being the priority. Giving us cheap domestic and business electric... what an advantage for Scottish businesses... for innovation and exponential growth. We would have seen the NHS transformed by now, all deadwood removed and operating as a health care service should. We'd have an educational system second to none, rather than one struggling to school. We'd have quality roads by having a low cost dedicated road tax spent only on road building and maintenance. Then of course there is the housing issue, etc, etc, etc. All of course made possible by having our own Nationalised bank which would issue our own currency under our own terms.

Alex, you have to look after your health. Unless you already know your ticket has been punched by some undisclosed condition, you have to lose weight and protect your heart. And your joints - you looked a wee bit gimpy there walking in. Currently you are a cardiovascular disaster waiting to happen. I wish it weren't so, but you need to hear it. 25+ years a nurse 20+ cardiac. Look after yourself.
@louisehogg84722 ай бұрын
Agree. With your expertise, suggest 3 things he can do right now that would help, please! (PS, he's eating a pretty healthy diet I reckon, so it's not that. Stress is rumoured to be a lot of it.)
@roderickmacdonald77012 ай бұрын
@@louisehogg8472 3 things. The caveat is Alex should talk to his medical team first, and take their tailored advice based on their knowledge of his actual current medical condition. But I'll give my advice. 1) Get as close as possible to a whole food plant based diet as he can. Meat, eggs, and dairy (and fish) are loaded with saturated fat that contribute most directly to plaque formation in the arteries anywhere in the body including those in the heart. Start with more whole grains, more veggies, more green leafies, more beans and legumes, more fruit, and reduce the meat/dairy/eggs/fish on the plate, replacing them with more of the healthy ingredients I mentioned. Home cook as much as possible, herbs and spices are loaded with anti-oxidants and can be anti-inflammatory which would be very beneficial for him in general: restaurant food, fast food, instant processed foods are loaded with fat, salt, preservatives and should be avoided as much as possible. If you are eating out ask for low salt options, and lower fat options - veggies don't have to be cooked in butter or oil, but restaurants just can't help themselves and coat their veggies in the stuff more often than not. Every step in the direction of more plant/more fibre, less animal fat is beneficial. 2) Very gently increase exercise as able. For Alex that would be walking each day, his joints permitting. At first 10-15 minutes, on the flat, and slowly increase from there. Don't go crazy immediately, he will lose weight with the improved diet above, and the simple activity is good for his cardiovascular health without running the risk of stressing his ticker. The last thing he needs to do is push too hard too soon. Slowly build up his regimen, preferably with medical advice guiding his way. If walking is in fact too painful he should work with physical therapists to find low impact exercises he can tolerate. Getting in a swimming pool and just walking laps across the shallow end would be useful to support his joints. Again - short periods initially, and slowly build up as he is able to tolerate doing more. Do not even dream of swimming immediately - it'll be way too much of a stressor and could lead to disaster. 3) Cut salt out. No more salt shaker on the table. Eating salt causes fluid retention until the sodium can be processed out through the kidneys, that retained fluid increases vascular volume which directly increases blood pressure, and by increasing peripheral vascular resistance can increase blood pressure further. Higher blood pressure represents higher workload and therefore higher stress on the heart, with concomitant increased oxygen and nutrient demand. Higher stress increases the likelihood of a negative event (plaque rupture), so controlling blood pressure and therefore reducing stress is key to avoiding negative outcomes. Any compromise to the circulation of blood to the heart is exacerbated by higher blood pressure. Avoiding unnecessary stress by avoiding spikes in salt intake is a good idea. 2000mg sodium a day max. Lower if you can is a win. 4) I'll throw in a fourth. Reduce alcohol intake. I'm not saying never drink again, but it's empty calories, and tends to stress the ticker, cause unnecessary tachycardia (and again, a faster heart rate = higher cardiac workload and therefore more cardiac stress), and long term can be linked to cardiomyopathies where the heart can enlarge and paradoxically grow weaker and more inefficient as a result. Cut it back so you can enjoy more special occasions to break out the good stuff. I'm sure many may disagree with my advice as laid out, but it is honestly offered, and based on a long career in looking after folk and their hearts.

@@louisehogg8472 There is no mystery about weight loss. You do not have to have expertise to know this. No matter the details as to how you go about achieving it, it all boils down to calorie intake vs calories burned.

Scotland needs to wake up to the fact that currently the UK will be spending not 8 billion on support for migrants but a proper estimate of 24 billion, taking onto account a full package of support including healthcare schooling and heating. Our budget for Scotland is still part of the UK's. That is the point that needs making. The EU is the driver for supported migration. We don't even have the support for our own people.
@SI-vb7hd2 ай бұрын
Do not believe any of the tripe fed to you by the right wing press because that is what the figures you are quoting are. Stop worrying about these and focus on the 66 billion made in profits by the 6 big energy companies alone last year whilst so many struggled to survive. What about the ever increasing share of money held by the richest? 90% of the worlds money is held by the richest 1%, whilst 99% of the world fights over the last 10%.

Ah. And there is the first mistake @3:00 You cannot assume that if Scotland votes for independence that Brexit vote would've gone ahead. Had we voted for our independence, Cameron would have resigned and Labour would've won the general election. There would've been much rearranging of the furniture but that Brexit vote would *not* have been called.
