His backhand is such a natural stroke. The forehand has a few different parts to it, not as a free a swing. Still both great strokes and a huge underachiever for his shot making prowess.

Well said. I'm suprised how few errors he makes with his forehand despite such a wild and big swing.

Inconsistent and poor decision making at times. On his best days he seems unbeatable.

Shapo is technical perfection. Style is impeccable. Look at that rotation...insane. Those forhands are insanely big and timed with perfection; same with those epic backhands. In this great video where he's right handed I can really see it and compare. Great athlete. Still don't understand why him and his team can't bring him to the top 10. Must be some serious inner demons? Not playing enough tournaments? Thanks Liam as always! Cheers! M

Yep he can for sure hit a ball but playing a match is completly different. The mental side of tennis at the highest level is what predominantly differenciates the best from the rest.

Great power but too many unforced errors I think.

I mean I’m no expert, but my take is: His style has some obvious upside: -Monster lefty T and Corner serves with ridiculous spin and pop. -Forehand has good pace and can hit great angles and his reach in the ad court is a huge plus against righties. -Backhand capable of ending points instantly when given time and ideal situation to set up. -Speedy, determined, and fairly above average shot selection. Cons -not a ton of variety on serve, a killer in the top 10 you have to fool the very best or they will erase your serve and return with interest. -Forehand is his best shot, but he kind of hits around the side of the ball instead of driving through it the majority of the time, especially in matches. When the ball is low, he has a hard time lifting it without his legs under him. -One handers are going extinct because in this ping-pong era of tennis, hitting a consistent one hander without making a mistake or giving up a short ball to opponents is something Federer or Sampras could do. Shapos BH is somewhere between Tsitsipas and Stan, but closer to Tsitsipas most of the time. -He doesn’t force the issue at the net frequently enough, which is hard to do since most of the field would rather get in a 20 shot rally than approach the net. When he gets to the net, like most of the next gen, his game goes from excellent to experimental. Needs to be able to rush the net on a spectacular shot and put the point away far more often. All this and he has to play very consistent, no mental breakdowns, and has to actually string 3 and 4 point stretches in games, he goes to deuce and Tiebreak a lot and that’s not going to win matches. He’s playing the best in the world, and unless he’s in the drivers seat, he’s going for a bumpy ride. All that said, I’ve always enjoyed watching him play, so smooth and powerful- just sadly not enough to dominate the best of the best.

❗ Don't let them fool you! This is not Shapovalov playing right-handed, they just turned the picture around! Look at the writings, than you'll see it too.
