The atmosphere is actually like a shield that keep oxygen from escaping but it also protects us from to much radiation from the sun. You also don’t want to be on that rocket sense the rocket has to hit the meteor destroying the rocket and redirecting the meteor. Yes an ice age can happen because extra dust In the atmosphere creates an ice age.
