Thing is, most fish that live in the bathypelagic are very small, some outliers include the oarfish, yet those arnt predictors to many larger fish. This suggest that if the opee sea killer existed they would be top of the food chain, and there lurking in the shadows behavior wouldn’t work to there advantage if most fish can see them with their developed eyes. They also have no bioluminescence, which is the most common way of communicating in the abyss, and most creatures, even the top predictors, would need it. Over all I doubt they would live in the abyss, even with there strange behaviors. Just because something is strange doesn’t suggest it is developed for a specific lifestyle.

Hmm, if this was real they would be everywhere, it would look a little bit different in my opinion, after all this IS our universe or dimension etc. It would be related to the anglerfish due to its appearance I’m guessing if it appeared in this universe or dimension it’d have a lightbulb or not. If they hunted the ocean life down there so much and the ocean life would move up to the near surface. We’d be exposed to many different kinds of ocean life but there’s a possibility that we’d be exposed to giant sea creatures that are hostile and search for us. Then that’s a problem. So the Opee fish would be causing mass amounts of trouble.

Some of the ones from earlier planetary epochs would be poorly adapted to the modern world, I think the reason given for why we don't see modern animals the size of Brontosaurs, for instance, is that the atmospheric composition has changed. Either there's more, or less, oxygen overall, which somehow manages to put a limit to potential growth. Or... something.
