One of the best indirect arguments as to why we should eat a healthy diet
@CaptmagiKono
@CaptmagiKono 7 жыл бұрын
I think the real question is what is truly an objectively healthy diet for everyone? Media and contradicting advice from "professionals" really makes it hard to determine, including how different people have different biological needs.
@thesimplecooks
@thesimplecooks 7 жыл бұрын
There is no healthy diet for everyone, there are quite a few gene polymorphisms related to carbohydrate, protein, and fat metabolism. A $200 23andMe test can tell you this information about your genome when you run the data through a $5 program called promethease.

@Robert08010

Georgie Sewell. I experience the same thing while driving. If it's somewhere new, I notice every detail and create a lot of new memories and it seems long. But when repeating the trip I create fewer new memories, in fact I often daydream and create no new memories as all. That can leave you with the sense that the trip was shorter or even that you don't remember the trip at all. They call the last one highway hypnosis but it just that you generated no new memory's of the trip so there's nothing new in the long term memory and it feels like you blacked out.

I think it happens because when we are first watching a video or a movie, our brain likes to pick up as many facts or information which is happening in the video. But the second or third time, we simply ignore the information and the smaller details we already know and end up only focusing on the main plot,thus making it seem like it is going faster.

@descai10

Probably not related, your gut doesn't really "think" about the outside world, if it thinks at all. It mainly processes things your body does and doesn't need.
@aeiouaeiou100
@aeiouaeiou100 7 жыл бұрын
probably is related. Gut feelings are actual feelings in your gut, you start realising this if you do a lot of meditation and become more aware of your body
@BandeDeGogos

Probably not related, it's said in the video that the feelings in your gut comes from you spinal chord sending signals to your body. Everything concious is in the brain. The one in your head.

+Name Yes, but it _does_ influence your thinking. Emotions have an effect on the way we think, for obvious reasons. The "gut brain" has a strong influence on your emotions. The conscious mind though, is _entirely_ in your skull.

Atticus Mcilraith I asked that question to my teacher the other day
@Robert08010
@Robert08010 7 жыл бұрын
Atticus Mcilraith From what I understand, probably not. 99% of evolution was about a random genetic change that made that offspring more likely to reproduce. In this day of society and welfare, no one has all that much advantage. Just about anyone can reproduce. So even if a mutation comes along that might have had an advantage in caveman days, it doesn't have an advantage any more so it's unlikely to become a dominant gene. Add to that the more educated you are the less likely you are to have a lot of children and it's far more likely that we de-evolve over time.

Or share more germs. A gut bacteria wants to out produce other gut bacteria. So if bacteria A. changes your eating habits to eat more sugars then it will out populate the gut bacteria B. that thrive on plant cellulose. Theoretically you could make bacteria B dominant by eating low sugar for long enough to let it become dominant. You would feel miserable in the mean time as bacteria A tries to hold on to dominants.

This is very misleading. If you were to analyze independant organs, the HEART can actually pump withought any brain stimuli and thus patients with Neuronal brain stem death still have functional pumping heart. And it is much more important than the GI tract. Also just becuase they are independent from the CNS doesnt mean its a "second brain"

Hi you two. I have been watching your videos for a few years now and really enjoy them. However, here is some constructive criticism: The Vagus nerve is a parasympatic nerve. The "fight or flight" response is triggered by the sympatic nervous system, not the parasymatic one. Activity of the Vagus nerve would for example lower the heart rate, not raise it. (However suppression/lowered activity of the vagal heart innervation during "fight or flight" situations can "support" (or at least not counteract) the higher heart rate (+ further responses to fear/stress) which are activated by the sympatic nerves. In this way the Vagus does in some way, if you want, play a role in "fight or flight" as you call it.) You should maybe make an annotation to correct that... I guess it doesn't really make a difference to the topic of the video, but it's still misinformation. Also, technically, the enteric nervous system is not really scientifically called a second brain as far as I know...!? But I see how that makes for a great title ;) And I completely agree that the connections between brain and intestines are fascinating, especially how ours bowel bacteria may influence our behaviours. As this is something that has still not been fully understood/unravelled by science, I am excited to see what we will find out about it in the future :) Greetings from Germany

@zacharykennedy7372

There is actually quite a few connections between the GI tract and Autism. GI problems and food allergy's are very common in Autism, and they have found some patterns in gut bacteria in people with Autism, but they still don't really understand whats going on.

Interesting but really, it wouldn't apply to everyone with Autism because sometime last year I believe, people with similar traits were clumped together and said to have Autism when they really had something else to begin with. Not really sure why they did that but most autistic people usually exhibit different traits and there are some people with it that you can't even tell have it unless you know them well enough.

@ganondorfchampin
@ganondorfchampin 7 жыл бұрын
First, it's not that there is an actual link between gut bacteria and autism specifically, it's just there is a general connection between the digestive and nervous system, and the autism connection is just people trying to make money. Mouse models for autism don't work because mice aren't socially complex enough to actually have autism (eg. you can't talk about autism without talking about language, as it's key part of it), they just call the behaviors they see "autism" because that's what gets them funding because shitty organizations like Autism $peaks pay them to do such. Most likely the mice actually just have anxiety, as the video later mentions. Second, while there are connections between the GI tract and autism because of the general link between GI and the nervous system, it turns out that is largely due to anxiety. So if the person has known GI issues, that should be dealt with, but otherwise it's of no concern to autism treatment. Main problem is people are relying to heavily on a biological model for autism.

what are some good pro biotic foods besides yogurt
@Joseph-C
@Joseph-C 7 жыл бұрын
Food typically is not a source of bacteria, dairy products are really the only ones with anything significant. What other foods have, foods such as fruits and vegetables, are fibers that help the good bacteria grow and become dominant. If you eat a lot more fruits and vegetables for several weeks, eventually the good bacteria that they feed will become dominant and you'll feel very good. Taking probiotic supplements is basically a little bit of a cheat that us clever humans have devised, so that we can just dump a bunch of those good little microbes into our digestive system. If you want them to stick around though, you have to feed them right, and not eat much refined sugar and preserved foods because those are deadly to them.

Scarlet Peoni well not until in far futur, we barely understant genetic and ecology, and you want medecine undestant a whole flora... Surely there is fake lab for that but if you want trust pseudo-pseudo science it your choice. (those who got fecal transfusion it is they lost all they flora from some treameant and the after effect event is not good is better that have none)

Scarlet Peoni medecine is a pseudo-science, and false medecine (anti-vax,hemopatie,vegan) is more pseudo so it become pseudo-pseudo-science.
