I was studying medicine a long time ago. One day, in the operating room, a thing like this happened during surgery. The anaestethiologist, who had been working hard for almost 20 hours put the patient to sleep. Then, he unfortunately drifted off himself. The surgeon had started working, and the operation was in full progress. Suddenly we saw the patients right arm moving and start waving around. The surgeon looked at this and calmly said: "Mr. anaestethiologist, if the patient is able to stay awake during the operation, it would be nice if you could too".

This has actually happened to me it wasn’t a crazy horror story. I woke up they where talking to one another. I don’t really feel pain but I could feel my heart beating and being induced into a state of stv which was the conversation that was being held between nurses and the doctor. I wanted to speak but I had a tube in my throat. I made eye contact with a nurse she alerted what I assumed was the anesthesiologist I watched her inject my IV and with in seconds I was back out.

I woke up during abdominal surgery, I could hear and feel the electric saw cutting through my flesh. I tried to scream, wiggle my toes to let the doctors know I was awake, went into shock and was in intensive care for 2 weeks. I tell every doctor I have to deal with to make sure I am under. No one wants to go through the pain I went through.

Happened to me..having abdominal surgery, woke up and could smell blood..said out loud "what's going on ?" Then heard grown men screaming at the top of their lungs..every buzzer, bell, beeper in the room was going of , tried to lift my head up but it was strapped down.. whole thing probably took 15 seconds but I remember it 45 yrs later like it happened yesterday.. Terrifying !!

I DID wake up or never went to sleep during my surgery. True. I was freezing cold. Rock and roll music was playing. The surgeon and the anethisologist were chatting. I was paralyzed. I could not move, scream or open my eyes. It hurt LIKE CRAZY. It had been given Propofol and it didn't work. I have PTSD from it now.

About two decades back I had to get surgery to get my tonsils removed. One of the doctors botched the first operation so I was vomiting tons of blood and they had to take me back into the operating room before I died from blood loss. I vividly remember waking up during the 2nd procedure and it was pretty hellish; they were cauterizing my mouth and I could feel the burn 100% and couldn't breathe that good so naturally as a kid I started yelling lol, and they were all panicking and scrambling around the room trying to knock me back out with the gas, I could hear them saying "hurry put him back to sleep!" and then the next thing I know I'm knocked back out. Thankfully after that everything went alright and I got to leave after a while of drinking from paper jazz cups. What a memory

I woke during a 7 hour operation. I could see the doctor and nurses working busily over me. I was in a lot of pain but discovered I was paralyzed and could not talk but watched with amazement at everyone working on my body. The doctor was swearing a lot. After a while I managed to say with great difficulty the word "Pain" but it came out like I was talking in slow motion. The doctor said(angrily) "Not again!" and that I had been given a block so I cant be feeling pain. The anesthesiologist leaned close to my face and asked where I felt the pain. It took a long time but I managed to describe the area between my shoulder and elbow. I remember him nodding and saying it was the tornaquet. I then saw him reach for a dial and turn it. I immediately started to feel comfort at the same time as everything started fading back to black and I went back under. This was something of a scary moment but was not too traumatic I guess. However, after seeing this video I am now considering getting "Anesthesia Aware" tattooed on my body. I learnt from my experience that anesthesiology is something of an art and not an exact science.

I'm soooo scared of hospitals an i've never gotten a surgery. Just hearing someone talk about any type of surgery will almost make me faint. I don't want to imagine how it would be when it will be my time to get a surgery. I was in Biology class and we had to open a heart, I didn't even touch it. While my friends were "Having fun" opening it, i was at the other side of the table taking notes and just dying from just looking at it.

Anesthesiologists are required as a part of their job to make sure you don’t wake up by sitting by your head with more anesthesia to put you back to sleep in case you do wake up, don’t worry. As long as they’re doing their job you shouldn’t fear.
@juresichj
@juresichj 8 ай бұрын
Except they are not doing their jobs. They are talking to their collegues, reading magazines, doing puzzles. Doctors lie and gaslight all the time. They will tell you it didn't happen, that you imagined it, that it was no big deal, that the student doctor is new (so nobody's fault). We have heard all these excuses in my nuclear family.

Woke up during wisdom teeth removal. I was a rare case where they do full anesthesia instead of local. Does this count as waking up during a surgery? When I was 5, I got an infection in my finger and it spread to my whole hand, when I hand surgery they gave me IV Anesthetics which had a vanilla breath taste (it’s weird) I slept for a bit then I was awake and felt a lot of pain in my hand and started screaming, somehow it felt like people couldnt hear me since no one responded, the pain wasn’t like someone cutting into your arm but it was worse than getting a paper cut by 10 times, it was very bad but it’s nothing I could handle, but I freaked out since I woke up, from what happened I could conclude that the anesthetics they gave me were too low but they were enough to cancel out 99% of the pain for the surgery, at that time I told my mom and she was like, “you didn’t scream you were having sweet dreams, you probably were dreaming and had a nightmare of you waking up during surgery” I didn’t 100% believe her at that time lol.btw I was on vacation to Switzerland when this all happened lol.

I had a deep melanoma removed from my back. It was local anesthesia but it turns out that I’m highly resistant to it. My wife say’s its because I’m a redhead. 👨‍🦰 I jumped on the table when the doctor started cutting and he was surprised to hear me say I could feel the scalpel. 🔪 He gave me more numbing agent to compensate, but I could still feel it. He said he gave me the maximum dosage that would not cross the toxicity point, and that I would have to manage the pain. I was awake anyway, but I dread the memory of the whole procedure and everyone of the 150 stitches.

At least once a year I get a spinal ablation done on my lower spine. When I do they have to use a general anesthesia to put me under due to another medical condition which causes my back muscles to be in constant spasm as long as I am conscious. During one such procedure I woke up mid procedure and the doctor almost paralyzed me from the waist down when my muscles started to spasm and I asked what was happening.

One time I had surgery and I woke up during it, I didn't feel pain and I was seeing the roof and it was all okay my mask was on and after a feel seconds I fell asleep and after this, I woke up in the hospital in one bed, my mom was next to me and I was talking that it hurts and I feeld pain I tried to fall asleep but I couldn't so I just waited and I fall asleep tho then I woke up again but the feeling of pain wasn't that much, the doctors moved me to another room with my bed, carry me on the other one, and It was good, I was in the hospital for a week and then I was on "diet" I wasn't able to eat anything fried or baked, I was able only to eat baby food -_- after 2 months I went back to norarmal and after a week my friend had a birthday party, he invited me, I went, and that's the moment when I cracked my back on the tramboline, I fell on my neck trying to do a backflip but I couldn't and I stoped breathing for 2-3 seconds and I went to my apartment and I said, that's bad luck!

Fun story for y'all from a seasoned medical professional. Professional at being on the RECEIVING end of surgery, that is. One of the last times I went in for a major surgery, I was having some stents put in, because I had blood filling up the arteries in my heart. Don't ask: long story. But when I was under, I had a...dream? Hallucination? I don't know, but I've NEVER had dreams/hallucinations under anaesthetic before. I couldn't feel anything, and I'm pretty sure my physical eyes were closed and that I was still under, but what happened was that I had this weird sensation of floating, but, at the same time...okay, this is the weird part. You know those rides at the fair with the cart you go around in like on a rollercoaster? Right, so I'm sitting in one of those on a track, in the operating room, and the car thing is moving very, very slowly while I'm being given a guided tour of the place. There's this woman talking, describing things, and I can't remember a syllable of it (it was probably just nonsense, but I'm so screwy under the drugs that I think it makes TOTAL sense). So I'm riding around in this car thing, but it took me up in the air, above the doctors and monitors and stuff, but then I, like...shrunk down? I must have done, because the car took me inside of one of the machines, and then inside of one of the scalpels. I know, right? F*cked up. But when I woke up, I told them about it, and I told mom about it, and she said it sounded like a near-death experience, but then the doctor tells us, "Oh, no, sorry, we gave her ketamine." Umm...if y'all don't know what that is, I GUESS it can knock you out...? But it' also a powerful hallucinogen, because even once I'd come round, and a few days later, I had three more hallucinations, one of which was tactile, and I didn't know you COULD have tactile hallucinations. So, needless to say, my team and I agreed that, yes, I am most likely allergic to ketamine. Why they put it in there in the first place I don't know, but I didn't know I was allergic to it either, so hey, you learn something new every day.

If i would wake up during surgery, i would literally freak out... My friend had sugery on his leg, because he has something that doesent let him walk, and he woke up in the middle of it. He said hr didnt feel pain, but he was a bit just a bit scared, and they put him down. I cant imagine how someone must realise that someone is doing something in theyre body...

I became aware with a dental surgery on monitored Anastasia. Yes that's a high dose for a minor surgery but I have a history of panic attacks and anxiety around doctors so I went for the high dose. I couldn't move or open my eyes. I wasn't in pain and it was a 1 hour surgery but I woke up crying because I could feel it all. Not the pain, luckily, but hands poking around my mouth and cutting out all 4 wisdom teeth. But I couldn't hear anything over the oxgegyn tank in my nose

I have so many problems with anesthetics. I have a resistance to local, monitored and regional. I have it down in my medical records about this and also it is stated I'm at high risk of anesthesia awareness. Luckily I have never had a problem with general. But the others not so much.
