What Ink Should You Use?

In this video I go over very common inks used in American and Japanese comic creation, and weight their strengths in "blackness," water & alcohol resistance, as well as resistance to erasing.

Well, I was hoping to hear that Eon Vortex Ink was truly copic/alcohol proof but now I'm back at the beginning. What would your recommend for Alcohol Markers and what would you recommend for watercolor?

This test was done before the ink was fully cured. I always recommend people wait several hours after the ink has dried to color with alcohol or copic markers. Eon Vortex will perform much better than in this test if you allow it to cure. Deleter #4 ink works pretty well with alcohol markers and holds up well against watercolors too. THAT SAID: What I've found is that most inks that are waterproof do not resist alcohol. And the inks that resist alcohol are not waterproof. The most waterproof inks I've come across are Dr. Ph Martin's Black Star, Eon Vortex, Deleter #3, Speedball Super Black, and Pilot Document Ink. The most alcohol resistant inks are typically Sumi inks. Kaimei Drawing Sol-K, Kuretake Sumi Ink (green bottle with gold label), and Deleter #2 work very extremely well with Copic markers.

Besides the eon ink, which other ink would you say is the most uniform? Also, can I get eon ink anywhere else besides their website? I am looking to use ink that is total black throughout my art so that I don't see any brush strokes.

Common Boi Dr Ph Martins Black Star HiCarb has given me great results. Vortex is only available directly from Eon, unfortunately.

Ultradraw has also given me really good results on the correct paper. You just have to test the compatibility with your paper stock, as it is a very thin ink and prone to bleeding.

The darkest, most consistent inks I have come across are Dr. Ph Martin's Black Star hi carb and Deleter Black 4.
