What is a Baja Telecaster?

I to own the 50’s and 60’s Baja Tele’s! You’re covering all the bases! Both are my favorite Tele’s. Chris Fleming has a repair shop near where I live in Prescott, AZ and he signed the neck pocket on my 50’s Baja. Will NEVER sell either guitars as they are cherished ❤

I picked mine up in trade years ago on a whim. When I wore the frets out on my les paul, I started using it as a substitute. I remember thinking at the time that it felt great but sounded unspectacular. With a pickup upgrade I reasoned it might be a decent instrument. Fast forward ten years or w/e its been and I still use it daily. I never did upgrade the pickups .. The brass saddles have aged beautifully and the whole guitar is genuinely road worn from thousands of coffee shop and bar gigs.. The only three "mods" I made to mine were to change the black guard for a white single ply guard, dunlop straplocks and I put a treble bleed on the volume knob. Its a genuine do-it-all guitar and in true tele fashion the thick neck ensures tuning stability. I only change the strings if they rust out or break. Presently on a 5 year old set of D'addario 10-46's. Just a great guitar and was well worth the $600 (effective) I paid for it all those years ago.

I have the 50s. I think the biggest differentiator for me is the strat like neck pickup. Sounds so good!

I saved up for a year to get this as my first good guitar in 2008. Great buy, I have about 8 guitars now and 5 fenders, mexican and american, and it is still the best guitar I own in my opinion. I got the 50s because it looked like the guitar Graham coxon played and it cost 440£

I remember back in the day it was a lot cheaper in britain that America as it cost 440£ here and about 800$ in the states which was unusual

I sanded off the neck varnish. Mine has a much thicker poly finish than you describe in this video unfortunately, definitely mimes not nitro esque. Maybe that's something then did later? Mines an early 2007 (iirc) made one. Possibly early 2008

Same here. It sounds like it's emulating positions 2 and 4 on a strat but is too squawky for my taste. I do use positions the parallel and series positions on this tele most of the time, just without the switch.

Great video! Thanks. So I have a 2011 Fender made in Mexico limited edition telecaster My guitar guy put a white pickguard and a bigsby on it and it is Awesome So this makes it a Baja Telecaster Correct?

Got mine 2016 model 50s from marketplace for $380 and it was already modified to Lollar Pups and 3-way switch. Not sure how the stock pups compare to the Lollar Pups that came with it.

They mention the Twisted Tele in the neck but just a vintage style bridge. I have the pickups in a partscaster and the combination is amazing!

Hey. Does the Baja model have the same huge "U" neck as the Nocaster?

It is described as a chunky 50s style neck. Probably yes.

We are on the same boat, having lollar pups on both bridge and neck. Also was converted to 3-way switch when i got it from FB marketplace at $380 with these mods. So i never had a chance to try it with the stock pups and electronics.

Yep, ash body. Pay attention to the weight if you buy one. They can be heavy.
