Biologics are a still relatively new type of medication that hold the promise for targeted, individualized therapies for autoimmune conditions like lupus. They can be life-changing - reducing the need for other medications like corticosteroids and immunosuppressants, which can have challenging side effects.
This educational video includes an overview of the science of biologics, providing the background for those living with lupus to become better-informed partners in their own healthcare and perhaps join a biologic clinical trial.
Presenter: Don Thomas, MD, clinical rheumatologist with Arthritis & Pain of Prince George’s County; Clinical Associate of Medicine, Uniformed Services University, and author of The Lupus Encyclopedia, First and Second Editions.
