People often use the word "Cracker" as a derogatory word. This video will explain why I'm proud to be a cracker!

Love that history. My grand father came here to Pinellas County in the 30s from North Carolina, amazing to listen to him talk about it. He is 92 right now. I can't imagine life back then, or without him.

This vid is amazing, as a Fl native it's so important that we preserve our land and heritage. You have an amazing channel and are by what is very clear an amazing person, thank you for the vids. By the way, you look strikingly similiar to your grandpa in the black and white pics; I'm sure he's proud of you. Also the hogs in Indiantown taste noticeably better..

Wow, do I ever have respect for your grandfather. Reminds me of mine. He worked a farm in eastern Colorado during the Great Depression dustbowl as a kid, and was later a Golden Gloves boxer and WWII combat veteran. There are tough guys these days, but they don't hold a candle to our grandfathers.

Scared me with that title for a minute! I should know better, you're nothing but a kind-hearted gentleman. Your grandpa looked like a tough hombre. Can't imagine living in Florida in those days without AC.

I now live in Tennessee and forget the Florida ways but you really gave me those feelings and pride again. If all the Florida bashers could just see how you live which also represents a lot of Floridians they would be ashamed and jealous! Thanks for sharing yalls life with us!

I haven't searched your channel...any chance you could do more, sort of a History Channel type of thing, regarding the early days of Florida? I had no idea Florida had it's own "Wild and Wooly Days"! Hailing from Nebraska...Wild Bill Cody (Buffalo Bill), the Prairie Folk, etc., I thought we were the only pioneers! Tell us more...while the "old ones" are still with us.

Awesome video!! It's very sad that Florida up until not to long ago was the number 1 beef producing state in the entire US now it doesn't even rate and other states have not picked up the slack . Another thing most people obviously don't know is there is only 2 states that have the capability of supplying Americans with food 12 months out of the year and they are Florida and California because they have the climate and the capability of harvesting year around they also are the only 2 states that have the capability of growing citrus. Florida has lost 70% of its citrus groves in the last 10 years to development and 7% to greenery at the rate we are going right now there will be no more citrus grown in this country by 2022 . Florida is losing over 15,000 acres of farmland per year to development and California is losing over 8200 acres of farmland per year to development. We currently get 71% of our food from overseas very sad situation . Currently 17 million children are struggling with hunger everyday which is unacceptable to me .

What an awesome video! I became acquainted with the term a few years after arriving in Florida, back in 1991. Florida is a state with a great history and heritage. Proud to be an adopted Floridian!
@badpiggies9882 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing this heritage, I knew from stories told by my Florida Man uncle that there was once a time before the population boom in the 1920s when your state was sparsely populated (as in just a few hundred thousand), more like the rest of the South and with pretty much no settlement south of he panhandle but I always wondered what life there was like then. Respect from WA, we and FL may have our political disagreements but your state’s got a rich history.

My name’s Diomi (Dee-Aw-Mee) Herrington and I’m originally from Palm Bay & Melbourne (Brevard County), Florida. I moved to the Seattle metro area with my father when I was 10 years old so I basically grew up here but while you can take the boy out of the South... My mother’s side is from Gainesville and parts of Georgia and my aunt told me that we’re descendents of Florida Crackers. I had to check this out. I also got a kick out of the fact that our last names are pronounced identically, save for the initial consonant. Thanks for the video!
