A gear pump belongs to the positive displacement (PD) pump category, characterized by its ability to displace a fixed volume of fluid with each cycle. This displacement is achieved through interlocking gears or cogs, which enclose a fixed volume of fluid and transfer it mechanically using a cyclic pumping action. The rotational speed of the gears determines the smooth, pulse-free flow of the pump.
This video delves into the key features of gear pumps:
1. Positive Displacement: Gear pumps displace a fixed volume of fluid per cycle, thanks to their interlocking gears.
2. Interlocking Gears: These pumps consist of two gears with interlocking teeth, creating chambers that trap fluid.
