Have you thought about giving your daughter the childlike journal you did long ago to use. I wish I had started journaling when I was young... I have learned since watching KZbin journal videos that it is simple to use journals for each days thoughts and activities? Not just for special times. When you are older you realize how wonderful it would be to have those memories! I am the only one in my family who ever cared about paper crafts. Your daughter is so precious and blessed to have you teach her about journaling!

Hi Tina, you explained the meaning of a junk journal and the ephemera etc really well. I only started last year and the inspiration has come from you and the others. I would love to take the pages out of a book and reinforce the spine and include for start two signatures, but I haven't been brave enough to start on one yet. I love making journals and everything that goes in to them, also altered books. When I first mentioned making junk journals to one of my daughters I think she thought her mum was daft lol, but when she saw them she was flabbergasted and thought they were great and took three away one for herself and two for two of my granddaughters. Thank you again.

Full confession: I haven't watched this yet -- but I will. I'm stuck watching British police shows, which I simply love. I've watched all seasons of Vera, and now I'm watching the one with Helen Mirren from the 1990's called Prime Suspect -- it's really really good. All of that said, I'm so glad you're doing this series. I hope it brings a lot of newbies to your channel for two major reasons. No. 1 -- I never in my wildest dreams thought I could do paper crafting -- I'm a painter, and even worse, I do abstracts that nobody likes but me -- ha -- but I just happened upon Rachel's channel of her first 100-day project, and of course, was immediately hooked, and she kept referring to you -- Tina, with the lovely accent at the channel with the cool name. And so when I came to your channel the first time, you also had me hooked with your cheery greeting: Hi, this is Tina .... and I learned so much from you, as well, and of course, the lovely lovely lovely tick tock (and I never even knew these existed, but apparently it's a hot ticket item with antique collectors, I bought a huge lot -- 23 pieces in one, and ten in the other -- of just the metal watch face from different brands of pocket watches, mostly men, some smaller, more feminine -- I finally finished printing all the pages and made the covers and most of the add-ons for the pink journal, but I can't wait to start on the blue ones and use some of these with the tick tock paper -- part of my problem is, I keep buying your digitals because they're so cool, I want them in the journals, especially your collage sheets -- but because of you and Rachel being so open and sharing your time and knowledge and techniques and supplies, I mean, it's opened an entire world to me, and introduced me to other designers -- but this just sucks, of course you know Sherrie from Antique Paperie -- well, somebody stole her work and she's taken down her etsy store -- for now -- and she only charged usually $1 and under -- why do you need to steal someone else's work? I have this brain injury, but I just don't get it -- and it irks me to no end that all of you have to put huge watermarks over your work and only do limited pages so people won't steal it -- and your kits are so reasonably priced. -- and the reason No. 2 -- it took me forever to figure out what people were talking about, the vocabulary -- you probably already did this, but I couldn't figure out what a "signature" was for the life of me, until finally the clouds parted and I was like: ohhhh .... anyway, I just wanted to pop on while I was at the computer and say thanks on behalf of everyone who will discover how wonderful working with paper and fabrics and laces and trims really is, and how lovely you are, the girl with the lovely accent and the great channel name !!! Hugs, Patricia
@shabbydabbydoodah3 жыл бұрын
Oh Patricia, I can't tell you how much I loved reading your comment. You made me chuckle (as you do most often) with your comments about the abstract paintings that nobody likes but you. I watched Prime Suspect when it was first on all those years ago, it is really brilliant isn't it? In fact, maybe it's time I revisit them myself. Poor Sherry, it's just terrible like you say that anyone feels the need to steal someone else's work. I hope she doesn't let it put her off having her shop long term. Your clock faces found awesome. Oh that was so lovely of Rachel to mention me, I love watching her, she just makes everyone feel so relaxed and at home doesn't she? Thank you as always for your kind words, have a lovely day, much love x

Thank you so much for explaining the purpose of these journals. I've seen numerous American videos & most are using old book pages, some paste scraps on top of them or stamp on them but leave little or no space to actually JOURNAL.! I kept thinking, what is the point of keeping other people's memories...is their life that drab? Your idea of painting over pages to allow a clean surface to write was my 'ah ha!... moment 😂. I did that in a $1 composition book to UAE as an art journal using $1 poster paint ( from the dollar store). 🤓 👍👍👍

I also started with an altered book. Mainly because it was what I had laying around. An old one that was cheap to start with, left by the prior owner of the house. It was by an author I’m not fond of, had a story that was particularly unpleasant and that didn’t want to read. The paper quality wasn’t good. But, oh, did I learn a ton, doing every page differently, trying this and that, and just experimenting all through it. I learned about which glues I liked, what pitfalls there can be with gluing, and how to avoid getting too much of it on my skin -I react to a lot of it. Fabri-Tac is a silicon glue, and one that doesn’t bother me to use. I encourage everyone, if you don’t know what to do, to try an altered book. A really cheap used or new book will not make you feel bad if you aren’t happy with a page you make. Most mistakes can be covered over, painted over with gesso, or some such, or glued to another page to hide it. Have no expectations, you’ll enjoy yourself so much more! See what you can make. Try this and that. Find your style, and what you like to use, watch this channel and this series....and above all, HAVE FUN! 😁
@shabbydabbydoodah3 жыл бұрын
Oh Eliza, you exactly summed up my entire feelings on starting out with junk journals. Yes altered books are a great way to start aren't they? Yes, this was very helpful! I, too, have collected lots of stuff and have been slowly making ephemera. But no journal yet. Still trying to get courage to take the plunge! LOL! It'll happen... TFS🤗

Good start Tina. Wish I had heard this when I first took an interest in JJ. I'm very interested in your Altered book. I tried and was not happy with the results. Hopefully you will show me what I did wrong...like in removing pages. I did not do that well at all. TFS Tina. Hope you have a great day.

Hi! It will be exiting to follow you in this for beginners. 🙂 But i have a qestion about the glue. I live in Sweden and I Wonder if Anitas tacky glue is enough to use for fabrik to fabrik and so on? Because they do not sell fabri tac or fabri fix or 3-in-1 here. Not even on Amazon. And it is a lit a bit frustated for me because i dont know what to use instead. And to import that glue is very very expensive. Thank you for your inspiring videos. 😀
@beverlysager36583 жыл бұрын
Hi Helena, Fabri-Tac and the 3-in-1 are marketed for gluing fabric. Have you checked at stores that sell fabric and/or sewing supplies? Perhaps there's an equivalent product.
@helenaek38993 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the answer. Yes i have looked around but Sweden do not sell them here anywhere. And I have googled it up too. Thats why i wondering if i can use Anitas thacky glue if i would do a soft cover junk journal or to use it on laces on book pages? We have glue for textiles maybe i should use that instead?
@shabbydabbydoodah3 жыл бұрын
Hi Helena, further to your question about the Tacky Glue being able to stick fabric. Yes, I have definitely used it to stick fabric and it works wonderfully. I also really loved using hot glue for fabric x
Very informative thanks x I'm following the process x

Could you show, as part of this series, how you sew, like ruffles or fabric, to pages?
@shabbydabbydoodah3 жыл бұрын
I sew the ruffles individually, then glue them to the pages. I could do a tutorial, but to be honest my method is not the best/safest, if you search sewing fabric ruffles, I am sure that there are many better tutorials than I could do x

Great video! So useful, since I am a beginner on this subject and in KZbin as well. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have a question: The conception of Vintage is to reproduce actual items or to use true items from Vintage times? Sorry about my English, but my native language is Portuguese.
@shabbydabbydoodah3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your question, and your English is excellent. You can use actual vintage items or try to achieve the vintage look using new items. Either way is great and will look brilliant x
