Wow the advice regarding germs was way ahead of its time.

Just started my taper for my first marathon and it was really nice to hear about the runs during this time feeling difficult. I definitely feel tired after my longest long run this weekend and today’s pace run felt like a slog!

Love these videos. They’ve really helped me over the past few months to get the best out my training. Going back to November 2021 I knew in myself I was feeling so unhealthy and mentally low. That’s when I decided to start off the C25K. In all honesty, I was about to give this up within the first few sessions. I managed to keep at it and battle through those negative thoughts of ‘just give up.’ It was only until I finished my runs I was feeling great - runners high. So far I completed a 5K park run, GNR10K and I’m all prepped for the upcoming GNR22! I’m really nervous but extremely excited. Over the past couple weeks I’ve been completing my long runs at 10 miles! Never in a million years would I ever thought I’d actually be doing this. My mindset has completely changed from ‘just give up’ to ‘you got this!’ Thanks for the fantastic content and I will definitely be watching more as next year I really want to get involved in a marathon.

I had a trial 10km race in May this year. I had been out of action for 4 weeks prior to my race with some mild inflammation in my kneecap, so had not trained for 4 weeks. I was very nervous and feared I would lose all the improvement I had made. Got to my race and it could not have turned out any better. Not only did I run a really good race without any stops but I also beat my previous 10km race time by just over 10 minutes.

Despite running plenty of half marathons without taper this will be the first time I do taper properly as it is built into my training plan. Appreciate the heads up on what is and isn't normal to expect 👍🏼

My first marathon in ten years is taking place in three days. I have convinced myself that I lost all my fitness during tapering, and that I'm coming down with the flu. Is this "maranoia?" This video helped me feel normal! Thank you!
@runningchannel3 жыл бұрын
Definitely sounds like maranoia to me! All the best for the marathon! Trust your training - you've got this 💪

Some great advice there.I thought 'taper' was the name of a race. lol. Joking aside, I'm terrible for not allowing proper rest before and after a marathon.

I’m getting ready for my first marathon really soon. I have my big run next week and all honest still feel nervous. The last two big runs for me have been terrible. I keep trying hard to tell myself to give it my best. I finally took just a very slow easy 7 mile run and just felt amazing. My mind and body was both calm. Great tips on tapering. As in for germs I work in medicine so no shyness here lol 😂

8 weeks of training for a marathon. Bouncing back from an injury only to get another, but it was mild. Now I’m 3 weeks away been doing good with training thus far. Don’t know if I should do a last long run before tapering.
@runningchannel5 жыл бұрын
It depends how many long runs you were able to get in before you were injured. I you’re 3 weeks out then one last long run shouldn’t hurt and then taler the last two. Listen to your body though. Ultimately only you can make the final decision! Good luck!

The Running Channel I finished with a time of 3:49:59!! Kinda sad cause I walked in between 22-24 but I can work on improving my time next marathon.

They say to maintain intensity during the taper and then give an example of doing an interval track session at a lower intensity than usual :/ 🤷🏽

Got a Southampton Half Marathon this Sunday and I did one last Sunday and then another half on the Monday. 2 miles Tuesday and done 7.5 miles Wednesday. Might have a rest day today then got 5 miles Friday then doing my local park run Saturday and then an hour after I'm doing a 5 mile cross country run at Hurstbourne Tarrant. Then the following day I have the Southampton Half Marathon. 3 halves in one week. My question is if your legs feel fine and you're not aching is it still okay to run rather than tapering off?
