I’m a big fan of my mild hybrid Mazda CX-70/90 inline 6. I get 25 combined, 30 highway, and 16-18 mpg when towing a 2000 lbs enclosed trailer. The Mazda weighs 5000lbs and has 340 horsepower. So the MPGs are incredibly impressive all things considered.

Brought this car brand new last week , all i can say is superb , getting 62 to the gallon in winter, should do near 70 in the summer , fantastic engine set up.

4:47 Sadly not AC compressor. Problem is present on hot days when motor stops and cold air is no longer blowing from ventilatilation inside the cabin 🥵 I like to have constant flow of cold air all the time. Sport mode solve the problem but you need to say goodbye to 5.5l/100km 🙂

Ah thank you for clarifying, sadly in Ireland we don’t get many hot days 😭

i think that an electric AC compressor would require a LOT of power, so a much bigger battery and this ain't feasible with a mild hybrid. in engine stopped mode, the condenser is still very cold for a few seconds if not minutes and the engine will restart automatically even in mild hybrid mode with engine off, if the AC provided by the already cold condenser is not enough. in general, it's working perfectly fine, except in hot days, like 30-35 deg + but yeah, i would really like to get a strong hybrid version of this car in the future with electric ac compressor, electric everything and a stronger alternator that would actually move the car a bit more than the current implementation does.

Got the new model Tiguan with the same setup about 5 months ago. Up until now I still didn't really understand it. I'd come from a 2l diesel lump in my last one and couldn't quite understand why I've been looking down to find zero revs displayed while moving along - Thanks

Yeah to be honest with you I never really understood it previously either whenever I had rental cars that would do that

I just got one of this a month and a half ago and, appart from some electrical and sofware issues, it's the best car I've ever driven. It's practical, powerful enough, it feels amazingly balanced and grounded and I'm getting an average consume after 2000km of 5.2 wich is amazing for a car this sinze. Mine is the state version. Way better than a golf if you ask me

Ah that’s great to hear, I couldn’t get over how well rounded it is and that’s coming from someone who usually spends time with petrol or characterful cars

I got a mild hybrid buick lacrosse leather group here in the states but now I'm concerned when it'll need mechanical repairs. I don't think many mechanics know of mild hybrid existence 🤔

That "sail mode" would have you rattled the first few times you experienced it by the sounds of it!

mhev could make sense in 90's like 35 years ago as an innovation. now this is a very late revealed museum tech.

Hmm I get where you’re coming from but I kind of disagree, in real world use for someone that does a lot of mileage I feel this could end up having better fuel savings than either a regular hybrid or even the way the average person uses a phev. Any instance I’ve had a PHEV test car, once the battery is drained you’re just lugging around a very heavy system that can’t fast charge. Any friends or people I’ve met that have phev also said that after the first honeymoon period they find themselves being less bothered to plug it in and drive around with the electric as ac bit of a deadweight
