I sat down for 2 hours reading/watching about p-value thinking how this is so counter intuitive...then I watched your video...EVERYTHING MAKES SENSE! You're my hero (and Fido)!!

I have no formal education but that's only because the Grateful Dead used to tour. Now that they're long retired I have a bit more free time to flail about in many advanced fields. What I've discovered is there are certain teachers that can make the most fascinating, mind blowing subjects as engaging as watching paint dry. Then there are teachers that can take a subject that, at first glance, has the appeal of eating mouthfuls of dirt, but after a few moments you realize you're gripped with increasing excitement. You are the latter. I know I'm late to your channel and blog, but I hope you continue on. You are very helpful, illuminating and funny! You had me at puppies but I lost it at "8 year old are evil." Who woulda thunk statistics could be so fun? THANK YOU.

Hi Cassie, greetings from Dominican Republic. Great video, a lot of people struggle to understand some stats concepts, but then someone like you show us the light at the end of the road. We really appreciate your effort. Ah and the next time we run out of cookies, i´m going to applied p-value, but guess what? P-Value=my 4 year son. see you...

Wow !! What an simple way to make even a newbie understand what's p value ! And the way you've described, it also allows the educated audience to infer that the magic lies in constructing the null hypothesis world !! Thanks for the video ..

Very enjoyable indeed. To be very honest I have to ask how improbable is improbable enough? We happen to say 'less than 1 in 20', but there are all sorts of reasons why that is a bad idea. Would we be happy with an incredibly invasive, painful, expensive treatment for a trivial illness that worked 19 times out of 20? Would we reject a cheap, painless, easy treatment for advance cancer that only worked 18 times out of 20? That's the great flaw with p values and the great strength of estimation (AKA confidence intervals). Oddly, a great many medical journals still use p values as the primary approach to testing.

Wow! You think you were taught p-value badly. I was just told a formula to calculate it and compare it to 0.05 for some reason to accept or reject the null hypothesis. I am glad I don't do stats for a living. However, it would be worth wondering that with the base knowledge that I got, could I ever be a statistician in my life!? I think my course's name should have been "How to pass the stats course but fail life 101"

My dog - Doesn't eat the food Me - Make null hypothesis - He doesn't like it, I analyze data and p value is so large , Now, I form an Alternate hypothesis - The food doesn't like him, P value comes small , I changed my dog 🥲

p(D|H0). This is p-value :) There is nothing mysterious about it . It's just that it doesn't fit into the definition of frequentist probability, so they dont call it "probability".

Chicken or egg problem / Dealer's choice I reckon, oh yes I do, because, duh, duh, duh -- If you understand the purpose and use of null hypotheses before attempting to convey p-values vis-à-vis to them, _and_ have some basic understanding of probabilities then it seems to me you're well on your way to estimating something somehow.

Okay, you said the p-value is a probability that the result is that ridiculous in a world where the dog didn't do that. But I hear statisticians tell me all the freaking time that the p-value is NOT a probability. So what am I getting wrong here? There are so many conflicting statements about that goddamn p-value I don't know where to start. I just see it as a tool to distinguish the signal from the noise with some sort of confidence, not more, not less.
