Thank you, in the almost 2 years since she was born, I have seen her every week, including the day that she was born. My daughter will be producing my second granddaughter early in the new year and I am so happy. I know and embrace that my role of grandfather is to remind my daughter and son to embrace the joy of every moment because it passes too quickly into the next moment.

@Lindybeige I would love to see an episode where you talk about the medieval haushold, what personal items people had (mirrors/cutlery/combs?), what common materials or spices they used, how much oil/wax/honey or other natural materials did they use. It's also true that a lot of pleasant evening activities are very much mutually-exclusive. For instance, a quiet evening indoors with one's beloved - reading poetry to each other by candlelight while eating a delicious meal - sounds lovely. However, one cannot simultaneously do that and go with friends to drink and watch a play - as lovely as that might also be. It's the paradox of perfection. One might really enjoy ice cream, and one might really enjoy roast pork. However, the two things combined would create something dreadful. As such, it's impossible to create a single perfect anything without ruining its comprising elements. I think this is a good thing, though, as it means one can always enjoy oneself without specific past-times losing their charm.

A few years ago I was invited to a coworkers wedding and my wife and I were seated with people we did not know and I knew virtually nobody at the wedding and it remains the best wedding I have ever been to, because the people we met were completely unknown to us and there was no pretense and no expectations and we danced and did things we never would have done at a wedding party of people we are related to.

A 'Perfect' Evening or rather anything that is 'Perfect' is something that is well and finally done. Not necessarily something that can not be improved. Perfect means thoroughly done and complete, e.g. without flaw. Just because you can always thing of a 'better' evening, doesn't mean you couldn't describe what one perfect evening should be. Or could be.

First Minute what he says is right for me. So, as there is no "maximum" I go for the "Minimum", as "Luck" or "beeing Lucky" is the same philosophical thing as "beeing free" or "freedom". It is just a matter of personal feeling and attitude rather than "outside influences". So, a "perfect evening" can be many things, but for me it is mostly consisting of good Food, good Drinks and nice People plus no pressing Worrys about the personal Future and nothing that pisses me off.

The other problem with this question is that the answer will constantly change depending on when you ask it: Sometimes a perfect evening would be a night out on the town with friends, in high spirit and making merry with gusto. Sometimes it would be a calm walk in the woods, enjoying the peace and birdsong, perhaps watching the sun go down. Sometimes the perfect evening would be just a quiet night in, with a good dinner, a cup of tea and a good episode of your favourite television show. None of these are more 'perfect' than the other.

It might not be perfect, but a good evening starts at Cafe Rio. A black bean vegetarian burrito with all the fixings, enchilada style, and a large Dr Pepper to wash it down. Then, to a park to feed the ducks until dusk. I've gotten to know them, and their individual personalities. Once it's dark, to the cinema for the latest blockbuster. Smuggle in some gas station candy and popcorn. And lastly, to a little pizzeria I know that's open all night, and has free WiFi, to discuss the movie. Then, at home, some rough pegging, and reverse missionary.

Another problem with this question is that it doesnt account for the fact that what people want to do with their time depends heavily on their mood. One night I might love to have a long intelligent conversation with a close friend but then tomorrow I may want nothing more than to be completely and totally alone in relative silence. The perfect evening doesnt exist.

I couldn't stop laughing as you answered Lloyd. It reminds me of the short, satirical series the BBC ran about being English (I'm afraid I've forgotten the actual series title). You are quite unable to simply enjoy the evening. I do understand the conundrum you've proposed, and yes the question is lazy and vague to a point of near uselessness. However, while I may have objected to the question when tackling these, particularly if attempting to entertain the teeming masses of your audience, I would have proposed that my "perfect" evening is much the same as you suggested. Friends and/or companions, a show or entertainment, a good meal and so on. Of course this question, and your disapproval of it, does open the way for a discussion of what constitutes perfection in the mortal realm. I also think this ends up being the provenance of those of us with particular levels of intellect. I'm certain we both know of those who would say a perfect evening means going out with friends, having a good drink, dancing to some music and perhaps some intimacy, and for them that is the entire answer to the question. Those who are inclined to not only to exist but leave room for introspection soon come up with the objections you have that this world is too broken to actually allow for a "perfect" night. To provide an unsolicited answer of my own: An evening with friends where we can experience something together and have a good conversation. Some of it will be planned, for it is rare that my friends and I spontaneously get together, but where the night and conversation lead is dependent on what is happening in the moment. In fact, my favorite nights are when I'm so caught up in the moment that the connection to the part of me that constantly observes what I'm experiencing to see if it's enough is hampered and I am more fully present in the experience.

It has to to with volume normalizers, especially if you use one on your computer and another on your audio device, for example... they tone down certain frequencies, such as Lindy's voice... and then suddenly a completely new set of frequencies comes on un-normalized, and it's considerably louder as a result. It's not the video that's the problem, it's the audio filtering stuff you have running.

Derpimus Maximus: It is indeed a tautology! There is nothing wrong with using tautologies, though. They might seem redundant, but emphasize the point he is making. Or in this case, downplay the actual issue. The outro is indeed a "tad bit" too loud... Let's also not forget that "tad bit" is actually set phrase. You could use either of them on their own, but it is not rare to use both.

Good question, I think it is a combination of look, feel and nostalgia but also because glass stays colder longer (and thus so does your drink) but I think the effect of plastic or glass on the taste of your drink also has some influence.

A perfect evening would consist of crushing my enemies, seeing them driven before me and hearing the lamentation of the women. That is a good evening.

? You know heroin feels intensely good, right? Once you're below the "more will kill you" threshhold, more=better with heroin, to a greater extent than most drugs.

yeah, i know it feels good. but it (usually) doesn't make you so weak-willed, that you don't realize, that more isn't going to be 'better'.

So, do not expect anything at all in life and you will be happy with whatever it comes? Something similar stoicism used to propose. My father told me once his secret to happiness. He was a numbers man and he said: Happiness is an equation. This one: Expectations=Achievements. Can you make your expectations so accurate, so "thin" that when reality precisely matches them you will feel pleased? LOL One last question: without any expectations can anything make you feel thrilled for the future? Probably not, but, is that crucial? Sorry about english

Depends on the preceding afternoon and morning really. But broadly, a time spent with old friends, not really doing anything specific beyond revisiting the old "in jokes" and other micro-cultural reference points. Great days!
