O2 cleans the water and oxygenates it, the oxygenation process can kill bacteria too here is where I bought mine. www.aquaristikshop.com/
@giwanverveen34967 жыл бұрын
How does this compare to the electrolytic oxydators like the "Chihiros doctor II" in terms of oxidation (so the end result)? this ofcourse is cheaper and also works in case of a power outage, but it has to be filled every now and then (do you happen to know how often?), which is something i'd rather avoid (unless ofcourse in the case there does happen to be a power outage).
@MarksShrimpTanks7 жыл бұрын
Giwan the problem Ive always had with the other types is they make oxygen from the water thats already there so to me they are not adding anything at all ,if anything I think they would accelerate oxygen depletion.

It cleans the water through oxygen oxidation the result is a cleaner water with a higher oxygen content. They recommend one mine oxydator per 60 liter tank .
@drkamalosman4 жыл бұрын
Hello Mark, Thank you for this video. I made an Oxydator with H2O2 (5 %) and coat hanger wire catalyst. It works and fine oxygen bubbles are created into the bottle. The problem is that H2O2 is released slowly through the two small holes in cap but there is no O2 bubbles in my aquarium. So, I thought that released H2O2 must react with some organic to produce O2 bubbles. I put then the bottle directly on the soil and it worked. Now I can see bubbles of O2 ☺️

Ok, I have to admit, I didn't get any of that... i"m not very good at chemistry nor at shrimp keeping. But I would love to understand the correlation of the elements put inside a tank. To check my understanding, this oxydator could be a replacement for the oxygen pump? Are there any other benefits to it? How long does it last per dose? Lastly, is it a must have?
@MarksShrimpTanks6 жыл бұрын
No its not a replacement even though it will increase oxygen you still really need surface movement ...this items main job is to clean the water it does this through oxydation, the by products are pure water and pure oxygen :)

Hey Mark! Awesome video. I purchased one based on your review. I've been using the mini in my 17g tank for couple weeks now at 72f, and noticed using 1 catalyst, it runs out rather quickly, about 1 to 1.5 weeks. Any reason for this? Also, I heard that when using this, some people say to NOT agitate the surface, since it will be gassing out the o2. Is that true?

Hello Mark i saw your video and bought this but now running out of the solution can you help explain what i need to buy please for so many confuse my old mind.. it is very expensive to buy and unable to find it any cheaper than £22 for just one bottle, many make it themselves with 3% peroxide with different methods of the water that should be added, now would the actual tank water be ok to add to it and how much do i use, i am so confused and thought of you because you make things clearer and are honest.. i know you are busy yet would appreciate any advice from you.. thank you so much :)
@MarksShrimpTanks Жыл бұрын
You dont 100% need these devices, do they help yes but do you have to have them no, I have a lot of tanks with none in them, my advice would be if your confused by this stuff dont use them, wrong dosing etc can kill a tank.
@LastRaven215 Жыл бұрын
Go to the grocery store and buy a bottle of peroxide. Read the label. Read the percentage of hydrogen peroxide on the label. Divide the percentage on the bottle by the concentration of hydrogen peroxide you want to achieve. So if you have 30% hydrogen peroxide from the bottle and you want 6% divide 30 by 6 which gives you 5. That means if you have 5mL of hydrogen peroxide, you need to add 20mL of tank water to your 5mL of hydrogen peroxide.

fantastic vid Mark, I simply wouldn't have a shrimp tank without one of these. I've seen baby shrimp play on top and around mine so many times.. it is an invaluable addition and I would absolutely recommend any shrimp keeper get one. I now use 9% peroxide which I pick-up from a salon service stockist.
@MarksShrimpTanks7 жыл бұрын
Do you notice a big difference in the bubble amount with 9% solution ?
@Quint19757 жыл бұрын
Marks Shrimp Tanks it is greater in quantity and frewuency but does taper once it nears saturation Mark. I like to use it when in a bigger tank as it oxygenates the water faster. I do have the 'big oxydator' and found it overkill. It would be useful for 100+ litre tanks but anything below, a regular oxydators with 9% solution does the job quickly and for me the more oxygen the better for those baby shrimp. I'm not sure if 12% is perhaps too high but possibly not in a big tank.
@toastandcakeyoutube43955 жыл бұрын
Use 6% food grade is very cheap
@dimitrijekrstic7567 Жыл бұрын
Why? There is no reason to use this. Hydrogen peroxide reacts with water and creates oxygen and water. Why would you add oxygen in such a slow way? An air stone is much better. Hydrogen peroxide is also a desinfectant, it kills microorganisms. Again, why? There is no need for it. It doesn't do this selectively, it kills both beneficial bacteria and otherwise. It seems to me you just decided this is somehow beneficial, and that's about it.

@MarksShrimpTanks Жыл бұрын
Tank volume in liters divided by the H202% gives you the safe dose in ml. I actually based this dosage on probably a year of testing at different strengths until I had a dose where the shrimp didn't react. so if you test it and you see any reaction like the shrimp are acting erratic do like a small water change.

Yes it should have an effect ,cyano loves stagnant water that doesn't move very much ..Water produced from the oxydator is the opposite of stagnant.

Mark, is this something you will leave in indefinitely or do you use it for a specific amount of time in each aquarium?
@MarksShrimpTanks7 жыл бұрын
Yes you can leave them in tanks all the time, I dont think they are 100% necessary thats why I dont have them in all my tanks BUT they do help I think.

no but just because I keep on forgetting about them lol if I had gallons of h202 and lots of the devices I would use them in every tank.

Doesn't peroxide also help with algae? When are you gonna do another Q & A?
@MarksShrimpTanks7 жыл бұрын
Yes this will help with algea but dont dose it directly into the tank because I have heard of people losing all there shrimp that way,not worth it.
