Nice to see you in good spirits 🙂 I've been following you for quite some time but I don't think I've really commented very much. You were the first one to inspire me to hit the road. @@saguaro2231 I left Alaska in the late 70's. I also worked on a salmon processing ship: again, off the coast of Kodiak Island. It was hard work. But, it was also a memorable experience. I'm glad Brian got to go back. 😷✌

I spent a few seasons working on a processor ship in the 80's. We traveled to many locations from Kodiak to Naknek processing salmon and crab. It was hard work and not much money, except there was nowhere to spend the money. I saw many amazing sites, incredible wildlife, and great adventures. The name of the ship was the Pacific Harvest and we towed a barge called the harvester. The cooks job was probably the hardest on the boat.

I was a deckhand & cook on a 45 ft. Steel tuna troller, summer of 1972. We were 200 miles out to sea for 2-3 weeks at a time. Until we filled up with fish or got low on fuel. It was just me a the captain. I got paid 10% of the total catch price. Scariest work I every did, but the most beautiful place at the same time. Saw some amazing wildlife at sea. At 18 you don’t think much about the risk. I was one of the few women deckhands at that time. I made enough that summer to pay for trade school as a welder.

How exciting, Brian. I love Alaska. I was at St. Paul island in the middle of the Bering sea. I was there for 3 mo. Processing snow crabs. It was great. All I did is work for 12 hours a day 7 days a week. Money was great, couldn't spend it. We was in a big ship with -20 below degree weather. We were around 100 employees. All we did was work, eat and sleep. We even have maid service, did our laundry didn't changed our bed sheets but I always had fresh one. Loved it!😄
