It would be good to compare the Spot Gen 4 with a PLB, as both are ‘one-way’ communicators (disregarding newer PLBs equipped with Return Link Service).

Good point. I was only making a basic introduction for people who don't know anything about satellite communicators, but I am making a note to compare the Gen 4 and PLBs. Thanks, Rick

Hello, I have watched a few of you videos on this topic, they are very helpful. I have sled with my dogs in the foothills of the Alberta Rockies for years, by myself, and I have always been concerned if something were to happen. A friend recently recommended that I should get a Zoleo device. I don't have a smart phone and would only be looking to be able to contact someone if an emergency arose. Is the Zoleo a good choice? One thing I have noticed with Zoleo, is you can suspend service, I would only require this during sledding season, usually November to April.

ZOLEO is a great messenger. It is not good at navigating but great at communicating, just like the Garmin inReach Messenger. Both of these devices will automatically transition from WIFI, to Cellular Service, to Satellite Service. Let me know if you have any other questions or would like any additional advice. Rick
