Just got a SOC Analyst II role for my first cybersecurity position. What should I be doing to prepare and become great at my role to excel in the field?

Awesome and congrats! I think the main thing is to always be learning. Keep up with the latest attacks, join threat intel sharing groups, and speak with pen testers and red teamers to understand modern attack patterns. Hope this is helpful and best of luck on your journey! - Jason

Is it also taking calls?

Not directly. Most customers have a point of contact at the SOC provider who then relays that information. It's not like with IT helpdesk where you get direct customer support. - Jason
