Simile is comparison between two things, usually word like and as , often used in all kinds of writing especially poetry. Similes compare one thing with another my love is like red , red rose , compare aspects of one thing with another she is as big as house . Similes are indirect comparisons that used worked like or as . Similes come from Latin means similar or like . Effect of similes can create vivid image in reader mind , helping to engage and absorb themes . Basic rules of similes and metaphors are use them sparingly. Use comparison that fitting word of story. Match one thing being described. Keep them simple avoid cliches . Importance of similes help audiences visualize text in mind . Thank you for your wonderful educational literary channel.

Great work here, Khatoon! We like short and simple similes, but watch out for epic similes, which do quite different things!

I second that statement. As much underrated as an overrated actor, like Mark Wahlberg.

So happy to watch this today at South Albany High School, once per section of Freshman English for a total of 5! We pause on the the 3 beautiful examples to see WHAT is being compared to WHAT? snow/foam, but seaweed/carpet is my personal fave.

When writing fiction, is it inappropriate to use similes comparing to the modern world when writing a historical type world? Such as using a the bass best of a subwoofer to portray the beat of large wings of a creature.

Interesting question. It would certainly be considered an anachronism and would call attention to the fact that the narrator and speaker are occupying a place in time far different than than of the story's action. If you wanted that effect, go for it. If your narrator is speaking from the same time period, avoid the anachronism.

Let me try something 😁 Anna is as white as snow, her smile is as bright as the sun. Her eyes were as brown as almonds, her earrings sparkled like a diamond. She is always busy like a bee, her heart as soft as a rose. Now she is as hungry as a bear, but still she looked as fresh as a jasmine. 😅
