Maybe a proper mask with proper filters should be used while it was melting . What were these fumes ? looked dangerous !

100% - it's never a good idea to melt anything if you don't know what it is :) we were in a well ventilated space, and had a fan going, but looking back a mask might have been a good idea also - thankfully we knew this stuff was non-toxic, it was just steam. :)

So, did you ever find out what they are made of and how we can get our hands (no pun intended) on some of the stuff to pour into shapes?

Hi! It's a kind of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) - which is a combination of different polymers. The recipe would be different for each kind of toy I guess! A helpful reddit thread pointed me to a paper mentioning isoprene polymer (a synthetic rubber), styrene-butadiene copolymer, or a poly(styrene-butylene-ethylene) copolymer along with tackifiers, and coloring materials. Explaining these needs it's own KZbin video! Basically, stretchy stuff, and sticky stuff. :D

That would be so cool! If anyone wants to donate hundreds of sticky hands - let us know! (but also, we might wanna think of a good purpose for it first, so it doesn't become landfill!) haha

The fact that it re-solidified after boiling it tells me that it was manufactured as a heated liquid into molds. Or it's an anionic and a cationic polymer injected together into a mold, which would then solidify because of the magnetism of the polymer chain molecules.
